Hi, new guy to the site. My name is Ted. I have a mid-70's Series I that is in need of refinishing. I would appreciate any suggestions that anybody might have.

Hello, Ted. Welcome to the club!

I have a coupla Alembics that someday I would like to have at least partially refinished. If I ever have that work done, I will send them back to Alembic. It is my feeling that if the job is not done by Alembic, then you will be going backward. (Refinishing a piece of old furniture with a poor job usually makes the piece less valuable than if you'd left it alone. I think this more than holds true with older, valuable instruments, ie., Alembics.)

I also kinda like the 'war wounds.' On some new instruments you pay extra for the 'dings'.

Trust the professionals. The bass will come back like new. I have a bass in transit for refinishing as we type. It's not cheap so be aware that it can be dear and take a while. I feel that it well worth the investment and the wait.

hi ted welcome

Id have to agree with the above .

If you send it back to Alembic you will get exactly what you want and they know Alembics.

Any chance of a picture of this fine bass.
