As a project I decided to try and make my own control knobs for a friend for Christmas, and if they go well a set for me as well...

Any idea where I can get the tiny inserts and grub screws to hold them to the shaft?

Any ideas?

I had some made by a wood turner in my neighbourhood and I bought some brass tubing from a metal supplier which was pretty cheap and they worked fine. The grub screw just needs drilling a tapping with whatever size screw you can find.

I was curious about this thread, but it seems I was thinking on another kind of threaded inserts... I would like to know about the inserts on my Epic's body, the ones used to set the control cavity plate... I would like to find some of those (with their screws) to change the cover plate system on a couple active basses I have, definitely a much wiser option than big plastic battery holders, "normal" screwing on wood or anything else I"ve seen around if you have to take the cover every once in a while to do a battery change...

Those 2-56 inserts are hard, if not impossible to find in small quantities. 2-56 taps are pretty cheap and readily available, so Jazzy's idea seems like the path of least resistance. The Mothership might sell you a few inserts too.

I found brass collars with threaded grub screws that seem to be the right size.

I'll try them out and post here when they arrive.

I found them fairly cheaply in a Radio Control hobby store site!
