I'm looking around for a flight case for one of my guitars. Anyone ever heard of Hoffee carbon fiber cases? Check out his videos. Very "homemade", but the case looks virtually indestructible!

Also, I hope Jazzyvee will stop by and give us the lowdown on his new Scott Dixon case (which I've never heard of).

here are some links Bill,

I don't think this web site is active
http://www.scottdixoninc.com/

But you can contact Scott directly as I have done in the past via this myspace page.

I'm in discussions at the moment for having a custom case made for my Series I guitar with space for the PSU and cable. But I'm hanging on till I can get a smaller PSU which will reduce the overall weight.

I will try to take some closeup pics for you sometime during the week,

Hoffee cases look interesting. I got in touch with him to see if he'd make one for a shorty bass, but he was reluctant as he isn't making bass cases yet and didn't think it would fit in a current shell. They say custom made, but I think he's only capable of making the sizes he's created molds for and the actual custom work is in the interior.

Some of the other case manufacturers I've spoken to have expressed skepticism that a carbon fiber case can be made so cheaply, but from all appearances, they look pretty good. I'd love to see one in person. Maybe by the time my bass is done, he'll do a bass case.

The Dixon cases look like aluminum Coffin Cases. I have a three guitar Coffin Case just like the one shown in the video, except made of press board or something similar. Great for occasional local gigs, but I wouldn't fly with it. I couldn't find anything about price on the Dixon site. (In fact, much of the site doesn't seem to work). How much do they go for?

Best thing is to contact Scott via the myspace site which is how I contacted him. The case I bought on Ebay, the seller told me, was bought about 12 months ago for 200.
The case for my series guitar I was quoted at 250 but that was last summer.

Just spot this one on the Rimowa webpage.... I think it will be expensive, but if it is as durable as the luggage I have from them, it is worth a look.

Bill, I contacted a shop in UK who had Scott Dixon cases listed on their web site. The owner told me that Scott Dixon is out of business. I doubt however that is true as I've had a recent conversation with him by email in the last month.
In the end I actually bought the dealers last case for my alembicised strat when it comes back from Jaydee's. It has been in the shop for ages and I got it at a good price. So now I have a few more older cases to sell on ebay.

Those Rimowa cases look very impressive.
