The tube in the F-1X rarely needs replacing. If you attempt to troubleshoot the tube yourself be aware that high voltage is dangerous and will harm you if you contact it. Read the instructions carefully and don't touch any other parts of the electronics. If you don't know what you're doing, get your hands out of the preamp and take it to a tech. A. Inspect to see that the tube is lighting up. 1. Unplug the F-1X 2. Slide down the shielding sleeve 3. Plug in the F-1X and observe if the tube glows Unplug the F-1X before sliding up the sleeve and reattaching the lid. B. Test for a microponic tube. 1. Unplug the F-1X 2. Slide down the shielding sleeve 3. Plug in the F-1X and tap the tube lightly and see if you can hear it through the speakers Unplug the F-1X before sliding up the sleeve and reattaching the lid. C. Ageing Eventually, all tubes suffer from a reduction in gain due to age. It's a slow process that takes literally decades in Alembic preamps. The same tube in another application may age faster. Your personal experience with the preamp will let you know if you've lost gain. |
