Can't decide? This one's fairly straight grained at the center, swirls near the edge, lots of color shift. |

With a healthy douse of acetone, the color is closer to what it will be under the finish:

...overcome by the fumes, they swapped sides? Depending on what areas you pick, either one could be fabulous. I know how important it is to get a better preview, but it still pains me every time I see a beautiful piece of coco bolo swabbed with acetone. Sucking out that amazing, orange-colored oil that makes this wood so special. Okay, it's still going to be sanded, but I can't help thinking that you remove some from the surface, and the deeper stuff moves up to compensate, and you lose some. Sigh. But I'm probably just obsessing, needlessly. |

Good one, Bob. They swapped sides because someone wanted to see what they would look like this way. Valentino |

Bob; another subject I know absolutely nothing about and never even considered. So, acetone swipes degrade the appearance??? It does seem to me that acetone swipes do give the customer a much better idea of what the bass will ultimately look like with a given piece of wood. |

I wouldn't worry, except for the vapor (cough cough). Before you glue or paint an oily piece of Coco Bolo, you must clean with acetone or nothing will want to stick to it. |
