This isn't sliced up yet, but making this topic will remind me to have it done sometime: Just scraped along the top. Hard to tell how sweet it is in this state, so you can enjoy a picture of the bowl my uncle Bob made for Valentino until we make an instrument from this beautiful wood. |

The bowl is beautiful! I'll have to have breakfast at Val's house someday. The scrape is intriguing. |

Yessiree! We're making a fretless Rogue for our showroom out of some of this slab right now. |

Could you post a picture of it sliced? Is there an upcharge to use it as top wood on a Rogue? |

We've been emailing about this wood, but I'll update the rest of the Club too. Jarrah Burl is the same price as Burl Maple. Here's a bass we're making for our showroom that's in carving right now: Can't wait for this one to be done! It's a fretless Rogue with a Mahogany/Vermilion/Ebony neck. It's got side LEDs too, I just don't recall what color they are at this moment. |

What is the aim with that neck combination? Is there an upcharge for mahogany & vermillion? |

Are those little cavities in the surface? How will they be filled? |

Oh sure - like most burls, the Jarrah has some voids. We're planning on filling the voids in this piece with an Ebony dust/epoxy mixture - should coordinate with the Ebony neck laminate and fingerboard, and accentuate some of the interesting things about this piece. We're thinking this neck will make a nice warm, rounded fretless sound, with the excellent sustain of the Ebony. Pricing depends on the model, Susan can answer any specific questions by email. |

Ok stuff like that definitely deserves a build thread even if it isn't for anyone particular. |

Even if there isn't a FTC, I'd really like to see how this one turns out ;-) Graeme |

I have just ordered a 5 string Rogue in this wood - so maybe we could have an FTC thread for both basses. |

David- Is the Rogue going to be for personal use or for the shop? Care to share build details- neck woods, electronics? Toby |

Toby - it is for our display stock. 34" scale, Orion peghead (which I think really suits the Rogue body shape). The rest is "standard" Rogue. |

David- My bank account wishes you hadn't said that.... I agree on the Orion peghead. The only one I like more on this type of body style is the Elan peghead. I'll sit on this FTC thread for awhile and see how things shake out. Toby |

Here's the first Jarrah Burl bass with a little finish in place: Still a ways to go - it's quite time consuming for filling the large pores. I know I always say this, but in person, it's a total knockout! |

Even from this side of the pond it still looks a total knockout Mica. What sort of tone do you think the mahogany, vermillion, ebony neck will give? Graeme |

Graeme, That question was already addressed - check Mica's first post under the first picture of the bass. |

Jarrah is a beautiful timber, the burl is even better. My house and most older houses in Western Australia have Jarrah floors. We have some really nice figured hard woods in this part of the world. A mate of mine who is a local luthier put me onto this mob down in Denmark (West Aus) who he buys timber off, check it out... http://www.djarilmari.com/gallery.htm |

That is an absolutely spectacular bass. Pictures don't do it justice. And then there's the sound! John |
