Shaun,

This one may also be a contender for your project:
241 'toned
It's got some nice strong radial flame action.

Hi Mica

As stated on the 225 post, this piece is looking really good! I'll wait and see if the others turn up but I do like this. Looking at the picture I assume this is enough for 1 side only?

Cheers

Hi Mica

I'm probably boring you now but any sign of 232 and 236? Just want to finalise if possible, if its not too early. One other question (probably a stupid one); once I've picked my top, do I also get to pick the back from this selection (assuming they're not from the same piece of wood)?

Thanks

Yes you can pick the back laminate too. no sign of 232 or 236 - we must have consumed them on another project. We're just getting used to having the Wood Bank in place, so I guess I better take an official inventory and make sure the rest of these are still there.

Hi Mica

Thanks for that! Sorry to cause you so much work. Shame about 232 and 236...never mind! After some (much!)consideration I think we could be looking at 241 for the top and 240, assuming its still around and is big enough, for the back. I figured as I'm not having the purpleheart neck lams, the light centre part of 240 might help break up the straightness of the maple/walnut neck/body division. Do you have any thoughts? I'd be very interested to see 240 swiped, if that's possible. How soon do I have to decide? And would it be possible at some stage to see the 2 pieces with a rough (chalk?) outline on, just to give me an idea of how the wood would look on the actual shape?

Many thanks
Shaun

Hi Mica
Apologies once again for troubling you (hope you had a nice holiday period!), but I've just spoken to Valentino via phone (I was wondering whether my bass had been started yet)and thought I'd enquire where I stood regarding the woods for top and back. He informed me the bass has been started but wasn't sure regarding the top/back woods; I'm sure he'll have explained this to you. Have my woods been picked yet, or do I still have to choose? As I explained to Valentino I think I'm happy with 241 for the top, but if some other piece has been chosen I'd be really interested to see it if at all possible (its a lot of money for me and I do worry- I may never be able to afford another!).Would it also be possible for you to maybe take a few photos at various stages of construction? I'd be happy for you to send them direct to me, after completion if you prefer, or to post them via the club, whichever is easiest. Oh, and if you could also confirm that the bass will have a pistol grip, I'd be most grateful.

Many Thanks

Shaun

ps Thanks Valentino and all the best!

This is an amazing piece of wood!

Hi Paul
I couldn't agree more; unfortunately finances at present don't run to a bookmatch to center, which is a shame. I'm still currently awaiting a reply to these posts so I'm not sure if this will be the top on my bass or not; I'm a little in the dark about what's happening. I know everyone is undoubtedly extremely busy, but... help! Still, it can't be easy when you're turning out such incredible basses as we've seen recently! Mica or Valentino, any news yet?

All the best

Shaun

Sorry Shaun, I thought that last time you spoke with Valentino this was cleared up. 241 is slated for your top lam.

Well Paul, I don't know if you yelled REALLY loud, or did something really bad (not TOO bad I hope...)but my prayers have been answered! I was having a little debate with myself over whether to make this into a Factory to Customer; I kind've wanted it to be a surprise when I get it, but after following some of the most recent "F to C"s, I think I would like a Factory to Customer after all, if Mica is ok with that (Mica, are you ok with that?). And Mica, thank you so much for the reply; that's fantastic and is a great relief for me. You know that feeling when you're standing at a bar trying to get served and the bar staff seem to be unable to see you? (or does that just happen to me?)Well I was starting to feel similar...until I looked at the Macassar ebony postings and realised you may have been even busier than I thought! Anyway, I shall look forward to future correspondence with feverish anticipation.....and Paul, don't close the door yet, I'm still in here!

All the best

PS ooh ...I can be very bad. The most funny part of it is when I get Mica on the phone -what only happens to say hello, there is alas no business in progress- she already know she can yell at me the most awfull words out of the US-linog dictionary ...as long they DON'T say that I'm a sweet and friendly guy...
