Alan, Nice bass. I was originally interested in that one back when I ordered my Custom Orion from Superbass Steve. He loved that thing so much I thought he was gonna keep it for himself. You must have hit the lottery, LOL! BTW, Steve is a super guy...he stands behind his stuff and is willing to go the extra mile for the customer. | ||

Everyone, Thanks for the kind words. Mike: Quilted maple would indeed be pretty. Need to start saving, I guess! Bill: You're right, it does get easier. Sure, Alembics are expensive, but you get what you pay for, namely, the finest instruments on the planet, IMHO. Chris: Don't worry about me buying up the supply of Alembics. Can't afford to in the first place, and second, I know the good folks in Santa Rosa are going to keep making them! As soon as I have pics I'll post them. Alan | ||

Folks, Just got the Europa today. As usual, WHAT AN INSTRUMENT! It's exactly what I was looking for -Jazz Bass type playability with Alembic electronics and quality. I really like the neck - much slimmer than my Spyder (don't get me wrong, though - I love my Spyder too!). I grew up playing Rickenbackers and Jazz Basses, and the Europa has the same type of "fast" neck and many of the same tones, though the Q Switch and quick tone change switches add even more tonal options. Plus, I've got the amber LEDs on the side. They're a bit jarring at first (I'm used to the red ones on my Spyder), but easy to get used to. And the finish ... absolutely gorgeous and flawless. I'm in the middle of moving back to North Carolina (being transferred back), so I'm not sure when I'll get pics posted. Rest assured that as soon as I can do it, I will. I'm considering selling my Spoiler-Exploiter. Not playing it much since I got the Spyder. We'll see, I guess. Alan | ||

The fourth switch is the LED on/off switch. The quick tone change switches act as a boost (from what I can tell) for treble and bass. The third switch is the Q on/off switch. The only thing I would change is having separate volume controls for both pickups - a legacy of playing Jazz Basses for so many years. The pan isn't bad, but I'm not used to it ... yet. BTW, had my final gig with the band I was playing with in the DC area on Sunday, and I used the Europa. Had to play it through an Eden 2X10 amp, but man, was it awesome. Very comfortable to play, unlimited tones ... makes it hard to choose between it and my Spyder (didn't have enough room to use the Spyder!). Anyway, thanks for all the kind words, guys. Bah, how could you tell? All you know is that as you move one switch in a particular direction, the bass increases. As you move the other switch in that direction, the treble increases. How are you supposed to know which spot represents flat? | ||

Bsee, it's a three position switch. It clicks quite securely in the middle and stands straight up - that's the "flat" setting. I don't think you'd have any trouble hearing by the tone or feeling it by the switch position. Alan: what a beautiful burst finish! EffClef | ||

The more I play the Europa, the more I truly appreciate it. For me, it is the ultimate bass (uhh, other than an Europa with Series II electronics!). I play it every day now, and it practically plays itself. Smooth, effortless, like my Spyder. And the tones are just absolutely astounding. I can get Jaco tones, Geddy tones, Precision tones, you name it. Yeah, it cost a wad of cash, but it's worth every penny. Thank God for Alembic. Alan |
