Hello I know there is the thread just below about strings in general, but I'm wondering about what my available choices are for 36" scale with non-tapered B. I remember getting burned by some purchases for a 35" scale! And does anyone know what gauge strings Alembic sets up/ships by default? Thanks for any info (again)! Rob |

Do you need just 5 strings, or 6? I'm pretty sure you get CX-3's by default, which are described here. |

It is a 5 string. I was told I got it shipped with Ken Smith strings, because the Alembics don't fit on 36" scale. I don't really like them. I know DR strings barely fit on my 35" bass, but that one had a thru-body bridge. I just hate purchasing strings that don't fit, I'm just curious to hear from any other 36" scale owners what brands do fit from experience. Thanks... |

My 36" scale 5-string came strung with Ken Smiths. They were OK but I prefer DRs. I replaced the Smiths with High Beams and, just recently, I put Sunbeams on it. The outer wrap of the High Beams B-string ended in the middle of the nut. The same is true for the A of the Sunbeams. It doesn't effect the tone, however. I know Rami has a couple of 36's. I think he is using RS88 "Tru Bass" on his fretless. Hope this helps. Kevin |

If you have any interest in flat wounds, the TI JF365 set will almost certainly fit. I can give you silk-to-silk measurements, let me know. |

Hi Rob, Actually on my Fretless 6 I'm using LaBella "Deep Talkin' Bass" nylon flats. I think they're the sweetest sounding flats I've tried yet. Maybe the Bass has something to do with it as well! My Fretted wears Smith "Rock Masters". I find them a little aggressive sounding - but I got used to them. Besides, the purple silk they're wrapped in looks too cool with all that Purpleheart on the Bass.... But seriously, I do like the brightness and clarity. I prefer lighter gauges around 120 - 125 for the low B. At 36" scale, they're tight enough to go light gauge. Rami |
