I just bought a NEW 1996 Stanley Clark Deluxe from a store in Maryland. According to them it's brand new ... has been in the store since 1996 when they ordered it from Alembic and i got it for a REAL NICE price because they wanted to get rid if it. I'm it's 1st owner. It has a quilt maple top, signature electronics of course and frankly is the nicest bass i've ever player or owned. This is my third Alembic, I also have a 95 five string Epic and an 88 4 string Persuader. I registered the bass last Friday and asked a few questions which as of right now have not been answered. 1st question was ... the bass DOESN'T have puppleheart in the neck, only in between the quilt maple top and mahogany body and i thought the Deluxe came with puppleheart in the neck. Also the serial number starts with a SJ and deluxe's start with SC. I inquired to the store and they replyed it was still a Deluxe because it has a matching top on the head on both sides. REGARDLESS if it's a deluxe or standard I got an unbelieveable price for a brand new SC Signature bass (with pro tec case). I was just wondering if this difference was due to the fact it was made in 1996 or is it actually a standard and not a Deluxe? (Personally i think the store is wrong, i think it's a standard.) Hopefully Alembic will respond to me today officially. I would post the serial number but i'm writing from work and don't have it with me. Monday or Tuesday eveing I'll take photos of it and post it in the "show your bass" section of the club along with the serial number. Regardless of the "Deluxe vs Standard" outcome this is simply the most beautiful and most responsive bass I've ever played and i got a killer price even if it's a standard. I got it Thursday and giged with it Friday and Saturday nights. ....... What a joy!!!!! I'll post the photos soon. |

Raymond Sounds like you got an awesome deal no matter what! I am pretty sure you have a standard and not a deluxe but as long as you are happy with the purchase it really doesn't matter. Soon as you can get some pictures up I can start showing my envy! In the mean time you can check for yourself what the destination of your new bass is at http://www.alembic.com/support/reference.html#sernum Hope this helps you out! Bottoms Up Rory |

SJ is the code for a Signature Standard. We match the front and back of the headstock on all neck through models (many early Alembics had different wood on the fron adn back of the body as well as the front and back of the headstock). The difference is the SJ has a top laminate only and a 3-piece Maple neck with Walnut pinstriples. The SC is usually Coco Bolo or high grade Quilted Maple and comes standard with a 5-piece Maple and Purpleheart neck. Electronics are the same. |

Thank you for the feed back Rory and Mica. I was fairly sure it was a standard but because the mucic store owner insisted it was a deluxe I wanted to make sure. I also didn't SEE the bass or the owner in person before i bought it because I got it through the internet and UPS. The price he gave me was awesome regardless so i have no problem with the store at all. However had i paid full price as a DELUXE I probably wouldn't be too happy. Mica the store is listed as one of your dealers on the Alembic site. Apparently this store doesn't know the codes for the Alembic basses they have and could run the risk of overcharging someone. This WAS NOT the case with me. Even as a SC Standard I got a WONDERFUL price. However the risk does exists. I'm going to let them know my bass is in fact NOT a Deluxe and that it can be determined by the serial number and the starting letter(s) code. I'm very happy with the bass and price regardless but someone else may not be. One more question ... for Mica I assume. I registered this bass on line early in the AM last Friday along with a few questions. (I work 3rd shift and write the club from work) I haven't received a reply to my questions on the registeration form yet so I'll ask you. When the store sent me the bass it had the tools and some paperwork however the warrantee wasn't with it. I wrote the store about this and they said they misplaced the warrantee over the years however assured me that the bass was brand new and as long as i have the receipt the bass is warranteed. Could you please verify the warrantee information for me? I realize you can't verify the bass being NEW without the serial number (and I don't have that with me) but hopefully you can let me know how important the actual warrantee card is ... because I didn't get one! Also ... "what is the warrantee?" I asked them and they said two years however another store on the internet is advertising lifetime warrantees. Is there a place on the site stating exactly what an Alembic warrantee is? If not i would appreciate any information you can give me. My home e-mail address is korg@comcast.net if you'd like to write me direct. I'll also let you know which store (I assume) mistakenly misrepresented my bass if you'd like to know. I don't want to post their name because I don't believe they were trying to "pull something." I think they just were wrong. Again thank you for the feedback and information! Ray |
