Folks, The same seller on Ebay who failed to sell his Elan at $1400 or better is now listing it at $1500 or better. I don't get it. Comments? Alan http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4713&item=3729057998&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW |

To attribute the adjective "cumbersome" to an item you are trying to entice someone into buying is a little, erm, novel too. Clearly there's a new way of thinking goin on here... |

That's the old retail store mentality: if something fails to sell at a low price, raise the price and see how it does. Usually this works because human mentality tends to associate price with quality (i.e., higher price means higher quality, right? LOL!). Personally, I think the owner is smokin' rope! |

"very cumbersome" at that... this is a very interesting strategy. I'm gonna hold out until he posts it for $2000...then I might bite. |

I hate to break it to the boy but that's not Zebrawood showing through the paint unless Zebrawood started coming quilted. Sam |

English lessons please! What is ment by cumbersome? According to my Oxford advanced learner's dictionary it means: "heavy and difficult to carry" seams like an odd way to sell bass best regardes Hasse |

Yes, exactly Hasse, that's what I was saying further up the thread. A little dry English sarcasm on my part. I think your English is doing just fine though, and your definition of cumbersome is accurate! cum·ber·some (kmbr-sm), adj. 1) Difficult to handle because of weight or bulk. 2) Troublesome or onerous. 3) Burdensome or hindering, as a weight or drag; embarrassing; vexatious; cumbrous. Hasse; your dictionary is correct. The seller's use of the word is confusing. |

Thanks Mik and Dave. Now I get your point Mik it took a while before the penny dropped. I thought it was some kind of American bassplayer slang. In Danish we sometimes reverce the meaning of words and sentences in fun. Making it impossible for foreigners trying to learn Danish to understand what Danes are talking about. exampel: Q: "are you being ironic?" A: "NO" Hasse |

I wonder if his wife told him to sell it and he's doing everything he can not to... "Honey, I've tried eBay 7 times and NOBODY will bid on it..." John |

For anyone who was at all interested, the price (and the Buy-it-Now) have dropped back to $1400. Here's a link to the new listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3732545507 (Message edited by jagerphan84 on June 24, 2004) |

Anyone make the guy an offer via email? Not being in the know for used prices, what's the thing actually worth? I might be interested in the thing for the right price (I don't actually "need" another one), but I'm thinking closer to a grand. BTW, the seller must be a club site surfer, or may actually be a member, because all the inaccuracies and/or unfortunate choices of words have been rectified in his current auction post text.
