Well, time for my quaderly string change (yes that means I change strings once every four years), for my short scale SCSD.

My first instinct is to get another set of TI flats, but Im also thinking of these two.

Pyramid gold flats
DR Marcus Miller Fat beams...

anyone here try either of these two?

also, the short scale pyramid gold flats, they will fit a SCSD no problem?

The Pyramid Gold Flats are nice in short scale , HOWEVER, they have the small ends rather then the larger ends . I had to use small washers on the E & A string for them to work with a standard Alembic Flying Bird tail piece. You can call Pyramid and say you want the larger ends like on the long scale set. Before you order ,measure your Bass as far as scale and tail piece specs(notches).

glocke. I have a few sets of the Pyramid Gold. Here are some measurements; From exposed string after the cloth winding to brass end = 33.5" From exposed string to exposed string before the cloth winding next to the brass end= 32.5 " These are too short for a Medium Scale Alembic. I have not tried them on a short scale Alembic. I was told that they are correct spec for a short scale Hofner Beatle Bass.

Terry: Not intentionally, its a combination of my laziness, and the fact that I can be too cheap to buy new strings sometimes...Just kidding (sort of), but in all seriousness I do kind of prefer the sound of a string that is "broken in" somewhat.

Wolf: Seriously, the std, pyramid short scale string ends are really too small to work with the alembic tailpiece without using a washer?? Would the medium scale strings work?

glocke , Yes , the Pyramid Gold order that I received contained standard sets of their Standard gauge long scale strings and their standard gauge short scale strings.Short=Pyramid#640/ .040/.055/.070/.100
Long=Pyramid#640/1 .040/.055/.075/.105

I also ordered a Special order of long gauge in .040/.055/.070/.100 = light long Scale

There is NOT a standard Medium Set , However it can be ordered to your specs!

On the light long gauge set that I ordered they used the SMALL brass ends that they use on the short scale set and THAT IS WHY you HAVE to tell them to the smallest detail exactly what you desire your specs to be.

Next time I will know how to order from them with out any disappointments ; I used the small washers because the tolerances were just too close for my comfort range ,I don't think the E & A would have worked otherwise on the smaller gauge sets.
