I had an Alembic made for me in '74 '75, sorry can't remember if it was a series1 or 2(I think 2)I lost it in Nashville in the late 80s, it was a long scale short body with a zebra wood top, any way to access pictures of that era? I bought it through Stars Guitars in San Francisco. |

You could try searching here: http://alembic.com/club/messages/411/417.html?1311625562 or try this SEARCH, you can substitute 1975 for 1974 if it isn't fruitful : ) hope this helps |

Hi John, welcome to the board! Through the years there have only been a small number of 34" small standard basses built (perhaps under 10 in total). The showcase section provides a good synopsis of the builds through the years. Mica has stated a bunch of times that back that early there were no real designations for "SI" or "SII", although some basses had "SII" features. I'm sure that a couple of well versed club members will chime in. Your description sounds familiar, but I don't recall seeing an exact match on this site.... Hello friend, I remember that era quite well . I used to wander into the Alembic location on Judah St, and later 60 Brady St. in San Francisco ; I was one of those long haired kids with lots of questions . Later" Stars Guitars" appeared at the 60 Brady St. Location. I remember the folks there such as Ron Armstrong and others as well . My memory still serves me well but I too wish that I did indeed have pictures , those were great times seeing the instruments hanging on the wall to the right hand side and the glass counter to the left with more cool stuff in it , behind the glass counter where folks were working on instruments ,____ yes , just like yesterday. |

Thanks guys, not too much luck on the search, except for one member by the user name "alberich" Haven't gotten in touch with him, but I'll give it a shot, it sounds like mine, very straight grained zebra, and I believe an extra knob, possibly master volume? Some one also sent me a pm to youtube where the only video or picture of the bass I know of shows a little of the bass its on youtube-"the planets saved by the grace" I even had hair back then, I really wish I had that bass back. thanks for the help! |

There's this cryptic post about a 34" zebra small standard. Only mention of such a beast in the '74-'75 sections of Flip's chart - though it's a '76. Peter |

Yeah Nick, the zebra could have been the same board, it is so close! also the master vol is like mine, headstock on mine was more square, and logo was on top, no leds but very close. I have an old sound man/document guy looking for some more photos. thanks again for the help! |
