I always loved Phil Lesh's Guild/Alembic basses, and I was wondering is it were still possible to have a guild modified like his. I just have a few questions for Mica or anybody who knows this kind of thing:
Would it be possible to put more simple electronics on the bass (i.e. not the 100+ knobs phil has)?
Would it be possible to convert a 4 string into a 5?
I appreciate any response. Thanks!

as far as converting a 4 string to a five, that all depends on the width of your neck,,,however electronics wise?,,alembic can do the impossible!,if your bass is hollow(body)theres room for all kinds of goodies.

If you haven't already looked at "Instruments Customized by Alembic" (in Showcase), you should. There are two examples of customized Guild Starfires in that thread ( http://alembic.com/club/messages/411/1796.html?1041225330 ).

I've said it before, I'll say it again~ I would love to see Alembic's modern day take on the Godfather from scratch. Neck through, or set neck. A nice thick & juicy carved top and back. Onboard SF-2..... etc etc.

I KNOW Im not alone....

i'm actually doing a little alchemy myself, and will present to mica & co., when time permits for my next creation "THE GODFATHER PART II" which i feel will be a continuation of phil's guild basses and his famous osange bass of that era. it will encompass the extravagant wood working and outlandish electronics that those basses were considered at the time. this will be no easy task as i will ask to have it either done from stratch or from an exsisting bass.
IMO the second one could be better the the first! just like the movie!
