Hi there,

I'd love to know a little more about my new pride and joy, a 89 Elan, if possible. The serial number is 88H5107.

Thank You!

Best Regards, Andy.

This is the one from E-bay, right? Well it has a fast medium neck ... one voulme knob for each pickup, one ACTIVE tone knob and an added "Q" switch which will change the midrange tone when used. I have a very similar bass except mine is a persuader. You'll probably want to lower the "P" pickup and raise the "J" pickup all the way because the "P" pickup is much more powerful than the J. that way full volume on one pickup will be balance with full voulme of the other. Also if it's like mine it's not too heavy but rock solid and very well balanced. I loved mine so much (It was my 1st Alembic) I now also own a 95 five string Epic and a 96 Stanley Clark Signature Standard. Once you play Alembic very few people go back to other brands. BTW ... by the serial number it's an 88 not an 89. I saw that in their add, they were mistaken. My Persuader is also an 88.

Enjoy your new baby!

Hi Ray,

Thanks for the info. Yeah it's the one from eBay. Still waiting for her to be shipped over to the UK.

Hope Mica has some history too. Be nice to know a little more about her background.

Cheers, Andy.

Hello Andy,

Congratulations on your purchase.
This what the file shows on your bass:
1988 long scale 4 string Elan bass
quilted maple top
maple neck
ebony fretboard
maple body
p/jz pickups
elan electronics
clear red finish
brass hardware
Sold through Steve's Quality Music

That's it.

Hi Guys,

I noticed that there's some examples with 'soap-bar' pick ups. Was this a custom thing or did Alembic change the configuration on later models?

Cheers, Andy.
