I have a new treble pot inbound and would like advice on soldering. I have always done all my own soldering (regular pots and "normal" guitar wiring), but un-attaching the old pot from the circuit board is troubling me, as I have never done this before...any pointers or input? |

Use fresh solder braid (couple of years old won't work). Dad likes this one from Radio Shack. Put the braid over the connection to desolder and then put the soldering iron on top of that. You'll see the solder wicking up the braid. Clip off the braid that is full of solder, and repeat for all the connections, and for the stabilizing pins on the bottom of the pot. Sometimes the old solder doesn't come out all the way. In that case, you add fresh solder, then desolder again and it should all come out. Once you've desoldered everything, you won't pull he pot straight out, you will wiggle it a little and then it will lift out. If you have to do this enough, you'll be much happier having a desoldering iron handy. |

Thanks Mica! Hopefully this will be a rare thing for me to have to do! Wish me luck! |
