Tom Gardiner Custom?

My friend recently aquired a Tom Gardiner custom alembic for a house he painted. He wants to sell it to me now. Could anyone tell me anything about this bass? I know alembics are amazing, I just cant find any info on a Tom Gardiner. If you can get a serial number I can look up the specs on that instrument and see what it is. The serial is on the fretboard and worn and I can barely make it out. I believe it is: 80 1633x USA the x is a number I cant quite make out. Could you please give me some info on this? Serial numbers weren't that high at that point in time.
