I just saw a bass on ebay whose reserve price was just too good to be true. I think it is a series II, but it might be series I. I couldn't tell by the pics. The guy's description said that is sold new for 3000, which means he obviously doesn't know what he is talking about because no series anything sold for 3000 new (unless it did a long long time ago and I just didn't know about it) Can someone check it out and tell me if it is real or not? the site address is http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=894715452 | ||

Hi Keith Seems to be an old Series I to me. I doesn't surprise me that 3000$ was the price this guy paid for, when he got it the late seventies. Maybe Mica can check serial 78-1081, so you can be sure that it is a real Alembic. It is not unusual that you find a series for that price, this one is a real good deal I think. Peace Jan | ||

It looks like the real thing to me from the photos. $3K seems right for 1978. We've never bothered to compile a history of the retail prices of the different models. Of course a Series I from 1978 doesn't have all the same features as a new Series I, we keep adding stuff! $2000 has been typical for basses of this age, especially without a power supply and cable (which the seller doesn't mention being included). |
