What sort of case or gig bag or soft case could you get with your Alembic over the years? And do you have photos? I am interested in the history.

Pic heavy post :-)

The "standard" Hardshell case:

Somehow these cases seem to lose their latches easily (I've seen LOTS of others with broken/replaced latches)

The Jan-Al Roadcase:

(about 20 (!) KG) The best protection for your Alembic, period.

Both cases for comparison:

I was skeptical of the G&G case initially, but after using it, I've come to respect it. It does the job.

The Jan-Al case is just ridiculous. It's the most heavy duty case I've owned and there is simply no way that a bass inside one of these cases could get damaged. If you want it to be lockable and fly with it, though, make sure you are really clear with them about that. They told me that they were going to include TSA approved locks and that turned out not to be the case. They did happily send me a new latch setup, so I can unrivet the old one and put in the new one, but for the price I paid, I was a little bummed that this had to be an issue. I might also request that it be not quite so deep. The thing is burly! I didn't think I would need the wheels and telescoping handle, but it does come in handy.

My '75 double neck came with massive hard case - not sure of the maker - I can tell it's the original because it looks like the interior fabric is the same in both this '08 pic and the old catalog shot (though the bottom part has been replaced):

wishbone redux

wishbone original

It is huge and unwieldy and doesn't really fit in my car - well, it fits, but then nothing else does!

And to keep the case/cat theme going:

sadie case

The G&G for my Stanley Clarke is OK - actually, the case is great, but the latches are pretty crappy - they work, but the little hinge that connects the latch to the base is bent and coming out - not sure when it was damaged or by who.

The case for my Exploiter was ridiculous! It was so huge - they just put the bass in with the neck parallel to the edge, so there was a lot of wasted space. I always thought they should have put it in at an angle, maybe the dimensions could have been a bit smaller? But maybe there was a reason not to...

Flip, I should have known you would have answers for my questions!

Anyone have any photos of soft cases? Did the old blue-style case switch at some point to another color?

Why are cats so attracted to guitar cases?

Elwoodblue:

There appears to be something wrong with your case. It seems to be missing its cat!

FC, can you tell me how much does that case weigh and its dimensions? I have a feeling the bass I've just bought from Poor nigel has a similar case to that one and I'm gonna have to drag it round an airport for my trip home.

It's 135x48x260 Cm and about 20 Kg Without bass (and without cat)
For dragging around at the airport: It's as easy as dragging around with a well filled suitcase (on wheels)
Also great to create space for yourself in crowded spaces :-)
But it will be a big extra for you with the luggage you already have...

Need a caddy? (I have experience, we have a great golf court in town) :-)
