I am the proud owner of an Alembic small wooden box that was offered for sale on the website a few years back. mine is number B-29. I am wondering if anyone else has one of these and if you want to share some pictures or details on them. Just curious. If interested I will work on getting some pictures posted.

I do own a few of those boxes, and we'll actually have 10 of them for sale in the store soon. I'll get around posting some pictures of mine in the near future. B-29 is actually the model number.

What does the box do, other than (I'm sure) have exceptional craftsmanship and, uh, hold things?

Huh ...o-ho MIke ...they are SPECIALLY designed in a well chosen format.
I you fill the box with 100$ bills the box will be full the moment you reach the amount of money for an exact JE-Exploiter Series 3 copy WITH full Gothic notes inlays on the fingerboard.

I hear the box is the perfect size for a pair of stockings, though!

This sounds like something one would special-order made from the remaining pieces of the wood used for the top of your custom bass.

Now lets see:
"My head goes in the stocking, the stocking goes in the box, so my head will go in the box" ???
Right ...I'll drill some peep-holes in the box and off I go to the next bank.
With a nice box I will definitely collect more money!!!!!

I would guess that if you rapped it with your knuckles you could get a nice percussive tone; mic'd and run through an SF-2 to round out the low end and smooth out the top, followed by a touch of reverb; then a nice Crown and an Acme.

I'd like to run a stereo DI out from one of these and run it through my Trace Elliot with maybe a touch of compression plus my tube overdrive. Betcha it rips.

I went to the store, but they are not there. Hmm, I still call dibs on the purpleheart one! The drama, the tension! The pretty woods! The burled and flamed walnut ones seem very nice, too. Patience . . .

The boxes are about 5.5" x 3" and just shy of 2" high. Good for picks, trinkets, piggy bank, etc. We've got one in the showroom for picks and another for screws and other little hardware bits.

I've got the Purpleheart reserved for Nigel and the Burl Walnut reserved for Eiji. Please email me to confirm your orders.

This morning we also sold the Koa and the Flame Maple/Mahogany boxes. I'll post the remaining boxes in the store tonight. If you've got your eye on one, best is to call today by 4:00 pacific time and place your order before the non-Club audience gets a peek.

There will be more with inlays in the second batch and I'm working on a way to do special orders, but that isn't ready yet.

Jimmy - Redwood has your name on it, thanks!

Tom - the Tulipwood was still available, so I've got it reserved for you. Too bad we we a little too late to get it packed with your new Skylark. Oh well, getting two packages with nice wooden stuff is okay.

Paul - I'm hoping for some Coco Bolo in the next batch. When I see one, I'll hold it for you. Next batch will be ready early October.

Bob - there is a little bit of burl along one edge of the Walnut on the top of the Bird's-eye Maple box. The Maple is also nicely figured on that one.

What's left: Zebrawood, Flame Walnut, Bird's-eye Maple. Maybe I was too hopeful about getting these in the store tonight, we'll see how I feel after cooking dinner.

Now you have to admit -and NO OFFENCE INTENDED, pure professionally spoken and I KNOW what I am talking about- that this club is one of the most outstanding marketing and sales tools ever imagined. The pictures were posted at September 19, 2004 - 8:55 pm. It is September 21 now and everything is sold! Can you imagine. I BET there are a new batch of boxes coming and they will dissappear as quick even without introducing this to the non-club market (and I DO believe that the outstanding craftmanship of Alembic would made them sell also out-there ...Alembic is better in small boxes than in big closets for guitar grin-grin-grin).
I already HAD a short/quick talk with Mica over the phone -aaaaah those phone moments with Mica, those were the days- about this Alembic internet-club-sales-marketing strategy and I must say it IS quite AMAZING. I used it in the last season of marketing classes I could give in high-school. Believe me ...this club was INTENSIVELY studied by Belgian marketing students.

Paul the bad one

Yes ...I know what you would ask ...alas there was no Alembic buyer in those bunch leave alone a bass-player!

OK, Alembic makes amazing stringed instruments, now Alembic makes amazing wooden boxes, if we apply the transitive function, Alembic should make amazing wooden boxes that are stringed instruments - maybe like this:

Maybe I will have a chance to get in on the next batch. How about custom orders? Maybe with custom inlays and woods? Just a thought. Congrats to all who scored one this time around!

Yo Paul. Hmmm, sounds nice, but I don't know if I want a little neat box with an $800 upgrade?! But if so, why not go for the rays, too? Might as well add in ebony lams, and laser LEDs! Then I suppose the addition of a neck and some pickups and electronics, and it would almost be set. Hey, let's not forget this is a neat little box, and not a bass. What were we talking about, again??? Seriously, I don't think they will put a logo on anything except a bass, will they?

We can always pretend that Alembic indeed only makes basses. Regular ones (please excuse the use of the term) and ultra-high picolo six-string basses that just happen to use the same strings and tuning as guitars do - what a coincidence!

Hey, my little box arrived. I opened it and looked at it for about 20 seconds. It was taken from my hands and I doubt I will see it again - in the context of being mine, anyway. If you did not buy this for someone other than yourself, might be best to sneak off to open yours when it gets there. From what I saw of my ex-box, it looked really nice.

Here is a little news flash for those who bought Alembic/Moody straps. Moody Straps is now Italia Leather Straps. www.moodystraps.com will still get you there, for a while. Just FYI.

Wow, that was quick, my Flame Walnut box arrived today! It's a very nice piece and it stands proudly on top of my amp. I'll keep some plectra in it and my stash of Grolsch straplocks will live there very comfortably. Lovely thing, great craftsmanship, as could be expected from Alembic off course...

The Sheriff has been taken by the Borg, and you guyz are making jokes? Well, he knew the job was dangerous when he took it. Carry on.

Anyone know who K or KW is (My best guess)? The boxes all seem to be signed by this person. Just curious. Hey, I got a vintage one! From 03. Makes me think these are not made often.

Going off topic? Love to! Why isn't Valentino listed on the Alembic site in the Staff section? I noticed he was not there when I went looking for the 'K?' person. I think there is a pic or two of Valentino in the FTC section.

Note for anyone thinking of grabbing an inlaid box in the next batch coming out soon. My ex-box's inlay is ebony with a pink ivorywood heart and an abalone tear coming out of it. Pretty spiffy and well done.

KW is Kris Worden; he's the box maker and he also put together a few thousand Alembic instruments.
I'm not in the staff section because we haven't got around to updating it yet. With all the things we have to do, it's kinda of a low priority; we'll do it one of these days.

We received a bunch of new boxes from Kris today; Mica will have pictures soon.

Also, we wanted to let you all know that Moody Straps has now split into 2 separate companies.
We are supporting the founder, Alison who now operates as Moody Leather, and will be buying straps exclusively from her. Her new website is www.moodyleather.com .
