Calling on the experiences from the trenches. Has anyone had this Modification done on their Persuader? Any pros or cons? I'm kind of mixed on this. I've got pretty used to using the J pickup as a secondary tone control but there are times I wonder what this baby would sound like if the levels were better matched. I truly Love the way this Bass sounds once I had learned to dial it in. Nice punch, sustain forever and pretty versatile for its limited controls. I guess my concern is will there be any noticeable change in the Timbre of the sound after the Mod?

I do not have first hand experience with this; so I can't directly answer your question. But, this mod should not change the tone, or timbre, of your bass. The only noticeable difference should be more flexibility in the use of your two volume controls.

However, with the mod in place, and being able to adjust the relative output of the two pickups via the internal gain controls, then you will be able to adjust the height of each pickup to change it's tonal characteristics as you wish; whereas without the mod, the effect on volume of changing the pickups heights might have been too constraining.

Around '07 or so, my '85 Persuader controls had deteriorated to the point I had do do something about it if I wanted to keep playing it. Basically, I replaced the volume, volume, filter with volume, pan, filter. I like it much better this way, but that's me...

John, did the mod to your 85 Persuader include a second amp dedicated to the J Pickup? If so, what is your opinion? Is it worth doing? As I stated I have mixed feelings on this because I like the way the Bass sounds as is. But with the added and more balanced levels could she be better ;)
Dave, I would suspect that the Tone wouldn’t change as well. Just looking for the in the field input.

Being the technical idiot I am, I am not sure about a second amp. I sent the pots and wires to Alembic and I got a new set back in that particular configuration as I had requested. I decided I wanted one master volume and a pan control. It certainly didn't hurt the sound any!

Thank You John,
That Pan instead of 2 volumes idea sounds interesting. My Persuader is a P/J setup. The P Pickup, because of its relative size to the J Pickup has a much higher output. The second amp is for the J Pickup to even things out.
Peace
Pete
