That backplate inlay may well be Larry Robinson's work--I know he did some stuff for Mark when Mark's shop was located behind the late, lamented Zone Music where I worked for a long time.

Here's MJ serial # 12, made in 1978. I have the original Alembic pickups and thankfully no routing was done when the new pickups were installed. I just have to figure out the electronics and I'll put the Alembics back in. It's an amazing bass. Plays like a dream!

What I love most about this bass is its apparent ability to levitate (see pic #4). MJ is a genius. No more need to worry about dropping one's bass on a table or putting it down too hard and getting nicks and dents, for it will just hang there in mid-air.

Seriously, that's a beautiful bass. I'd love to here some audio samples when you get the original electronics set up.

Here's a couple picks of the bass with the original pickups back in place. It sounds great!

The zebra wood Alembic and alumni were getting in the 70's and 80's hasn't been seen since. That little bass is too cool.

Unfortunately I have to sell Mark Johnson bass #12. It is currently on ebay in a no reserve auction if anyone is interested.

anyone know what it would cost to upgrade back to "Alembic electronics"? I personally like my Rogue set up the best, but my Elan is also good. I like volume/pan over 2 volumes.
