For those who have had the electronics upgrade, how long did it take to get your instrument back from the mothership. Thanks

Matt, this is the very same question that is keeping me from sending mine in. The price I can handle... its the inevitable longing for it back I fear lol

Matt, there is nothing usual about your upgrade, it's the first one we've attempted with the humcanceller not in the center and with the battery between pickups.

For more "regular" upgrades, the time is usually 1 month, as long as you send it in at the appointed time. I'm taking appointments for December now, so if you send it in before that, it will likely wait around until we can start.

If you have to bad luck to have your instrument here for an upgrade on the rare occasions that my dad is out ill, nothing is going to happen to it in the upgrade department until he is back at work.

It also does depend on the instrument itself. Some are easy, others are hard. There is no way to tell if a specific instrument will be easy or hard, unless of course there is a brass plate between the pickups, then I can guarantee it's gonna be hard.

Also, if you have brown pickups you want to preserve, that can take a good bit longer as well, since the engineering work can be much harder with the bar-mounted pickups, though not impossible. However, the bar-mount pickups will generally not get as quiet as the 4-hole mounted style ones.

OK, two questions based on this information.

1) Is it definitely better to have the humcanceller right between the standard pickups? I have mine in the body of my Starfire and it functions pretty well. However, I have noticed that it's a lot more effective when facing the back instead of facing the top like the other pickups.

2) Is it possible to get replacement pickups for the old brown pickups of the same size but a more modern construction? I love the sound, but they are very microphonic. One of the things I was looking forward to in having the Series setup in this bass was experimenting with feedback, but the pickups give me a high pitched squeal before I can even get close to the desired feedback.

This is my main bass and to not have it for almost seven months now has been frustrating to say the least. I did not know Ron has not worked on one this old (73-33) for the upgrade.I hope to get it back soon and look forward to it sounding awesome.
