Hey folks...it has been quite some time since my first report on owning Emma Avernelle, the 1999 Orion 6-string. And, yes...I'm one of those guys that names their instruments 8^)Thought I might put up an update. After doing approximately 20 gigs, the thing that has surprised me the most is the reactions and input from audience members. Yes, there is certainly a lot from fellow band members. I am referring once again to people out in the audience, both musician and laymen. Not only does it speak to the obvious, it let's us up on the stage know that folks are listening. These reactions always beg my standard response..."Well, it's an Alembic." Some people know what that means, and for the ones who don't, it affords a great opportunity to enlighten people about an amazing musical era and one of the truly unique and amazing chapters of that era, the story of the Wickershams and Alembic, the cast of characters, and the love and dedication that goes into the best instruments on the planet, regardless of where their position is on the economical food chain. This is probably just a rehash of what I posted about this bass after the first gig with it. An interesting thing I will address is the string quest I went through. Not finding a set to my liking, I went down to my store and we contacted D'Addario. I have been using their strings consistently for many years, though not exclusively. I have tried just about all of them and spent about a year using Thomastik Strings of various types. I have always, though, come back to the D'Addario XL170 set. For what I do, they have proven over the years to be exactly the string for me. We came up with a custom gauge set of the XL type which has been working out wonderfully. We have played about 10 gigs and I could not be happier. I hope this finds everyone well and blessed... THANK YOU, ALEMBIC!!! Steve | ||
