I'm interested in changing my Shorty into a Tenor bass with either CGDA or GDAE (Octave Higher for GDAE)Preferably round wounds. All suggestions are welcome.

I few years ago DR put together a set of Sunbeams for me for this. I forget what the gauges were, but they knew what to do once I told them what I had in mind.

Charlie
I have a short scale smal stadard body bass that was built as a tenor bass from the start by Alembic. Tuned ADGC. I used Alembic strings on it gauged 80, 65, 45, 30. It sounded great. Ironically I just changed it to DR High Beams 90, 70, 50, 30 tuned standard EADG. I'm having a medium scale bass built with that gauge string and wanted to have something to play to get used to it for when the new one arrives and the short scale goes back to being a tenor bass. What a blast to play that thing now. If I play my 35" scale custom Alembic with standard gauge Alembic strings 128, 105, 80, 65, 45 and then pick up the short scale it is quite a difference. I have to remember that there are no frets or notes on the peg head of the short scale. It is so much shorter, lighter and easier to play. You'll have fun with your bass as a tenor bass.

Hi Charlie
Last fishing trip to your neighborhood was 12/2/2012. It was almost 60 degrees that day. But no Muskies. Only saw 1 Bald eagle all day. Slow day but nice to be on the river. Waiting for it to warm up a bit and hopefully my neck heal some more. Are you changing yous Distillate to a tenor bass tuning or another bass? The Alembic strings worked great on mine. Had to be special ordered though. The DR's I'm using that are 90 70 50 30 are great for standard tuning but not sure how the added tension would be tuning them up a major 4th. They aren't very tight on a short scale tuned standard so it may not be a problem. I definitley wouldn't try tuning them a whole octave higher though. Way too much tension then I would think. Ask Mary about putting you together a set together for you. You'll like them.

I want to change to piccolo or tenor but
I'm not sure. So I'll probably end up ordering both types but I needed to know the diameter of the strings. see you when it warms up!
