I have An Alembic Series II bass and when I turn the pickup selector to the bridge pickup the output is real low. Then When I turn the pickup selector to both pickups it is really loud. Then when the top pickup is selected the volume is not really loud. A long time ago I messed with the preamp setting and I was wondering what the default setting are on this. Is it like 1 and a half turns out. Or does it varry from bass to bass?

I would turn them both all the way to 0 & then turn both up to half, then work your way the desired level and see what happens.

I wish I could show you pics of the back of my bass. But there are 4 little holes with screws you can turn and it seems to change the volume for each string. I think I've don't remember what they exactly do but I do remember changing them more than a few years ago. And now I've been expermenting with diffrent sounds and stuff and now that's when I've noticed all the volume drops between pickups. Thanks I'll give that a shot. Should the overall volume be somwhat the same between the diffrent pickups. Cause all of my previous basses have been like that.

Tonite when i get home from work I'll post up some pics of the bass. As well as some of the stats since there are so many diffrent configurations. This would probley help figure out what kind of electronics are in this bass. I'm the 2nd owner of this bass. And I picked it up from a friend and got the deal of a liftime on this bass. But it probley needs some tweaking here and there.

IIRC the two outside adjusters set the output level for the corresponding pickup. The ones inbetween adjust the hum canceller for the corresponding pickup.

So to follow up on what Keavin and Adriaan are saying, you only want to adjust the two outside trim pots when adjusting volume. One is for the neck pickup, the other is for the bridge pickup.
