I found a used 4 string, fretless alembic elan, which I can probably get for around $1200.00. It is in great shape, and sounds fantastic. Is this a decent price? As far as I know, it does not look like one of the forgeries i have read about. |

I'd say that's a pretty good deal. Get the serial number and check it out with Mica.

Well, it is now all mine, for $1329.00 ... Always wanted a series II as my first, but i saw this and could not pass it up...the ebony fretboard is beautiful, but someone had roundwounds on it , and it looks likes they dug in a little bit, but it does not look major... Now I need to see about retrofitting it with some side LED's... How can i find out how to take care of it, (set-up, etc), and how can I find out how the picksups work (looks like an MXY-4 setup)..

Hey Gregory, Congratulations!!!! I have an Elan 5 that I bought in '91. It's been my main bass since then. I do have an Orion 5 fretless that Alembic built custom for me, but the Elan has been my favorite for years now. It's been around the world with me more than a few times. In fact, I want Alembic to do some upgrades for me but, I can't part with it for any amount of time. If it has standard Elan electonics, your controls should be volume, Q filter, filter switch, and then pickup blend. (going clockwise from the volume). Happy Playing!!!! |
