I just picked up a 1998 Orion 4, I was never into Alembics before but I fell in love with this bass once I had some time to play it and get my sound right. I gotta put some new strings on her and figure out that nut and tweak the setup a little bit. You guys ever do any mods to these bad boys? This bass is exactly what I was looking for, nice versitle hi-fi tone that still has some warmth. Damn confortable to play too. I still love my Fenders, but I can't keep them all so now this Orion is gonna replace my USA Deluxe Jazz-Bass. I can't get over this bass, I know the Orion is a cheaper bass as far as Alembics go but I'm 100% satisfied, I love this bass!!!

Well it may be a less expensive model for an Alembic but it's still an Alembic!! Once you get the Alembic bug you end up with GAS and find ways to get more Alembics! ;-) I've had three but right now i'm down to two. A 5 String Epic and a Stanley Clark Standard. If you like the Orion you need to check out the neck through models. I use to play nothing but Fender and Warwick (Both very good brands) but now All I play are Alembics. Once you play Alembics you get spoiled very quickly! Soooooooo welcome to the club! Lets see how long it is before you're figuring a way to get your 2nd Alembic! ;-)

Hi Andre, welcome & congrats!! Many if not most of us do our on setups and adjustments on our Alembics. There is some useful information in the "FAQ & Must Reads" section of this forum. Also, I'm not sure what you had in mind in terms of mods, but most of us would recommend that you not do any non-Alembic mods to your bass.

Excellent choice Andre, you'll find the Orion to be a very special specimen in the Alembic stable. Of the two Alembics I own I actually prefer the Orion that started it all for me. If I ever (have to) sell one of them, the Orion will definitely be the one staying. Please post picture in the Showcase section and please forgive me for my spontanious bursting out in song:

(I keep doing this, really can't help it, the song is Jethro Tull's 'Orion' BTW, how fitting to the occasion)

;-)

Orion, won't you give me your star sign
Orion, get up on the sky-line
I'm high on my hill and I feel fine
Orion, let's sip the heaven's heady wine

Orion, light your lights:
come guard the open spaces
from the black horizon to the pillow where I lie.
Your faithful dog shines brighter than its lord and master
Your jewelled sword twinkles as the world rolls by.
So come up singing above the cloudy cover
Stare through at people who toss fitful in their sleep.
I know you're watching as the old gent by the station
scuffs his toes on old fag packets lying in the street
And silver shadows flick across the closing bistro.
Sweet waiters link their arms and patter down the street,
their words lost blowing on cold winds in darkest Chelsea.
Prime years fly fading with each young heart's beat

Orion, won't you make me a star sign
Orion, get up on the sky-line
I'm high on your love and I feel fine
Orion, let's sip the heaven's heady wine

And young girls shiver as they wait by lonely bus-stops
after sad parties: no-one to take them home
to greasy bed-sitters and make a late-night play
for lost virginity a thousand miles away.

Thanks for the responses guys, I'm gonna put a pic in the showcase section later, I'm guessing mine has a walnut top, it's lighter in color than the mahagany back, sounds right to you guys?

If you provide the serial number for the bass Val or Mica can update this thread with the build information. This will include it's birthday, woods used, etc.

All I have to say is that I used to play a mid 70's Fender Jazz and a early 80's Fender Precision, but the moment I started playing my Spoiler I was spoiled for sure. I have sold my fender basses and only use my Spoiler now. When you have perfection, why play anything else.

You guys sure love these basses, I do to, but for me there's no perfect bass, just the one that has the right tone that I need, which still isn't always my new Alembic, don't get me wrong though, I really love the sound of my Orion, plus the playablitiy and feel blows away my other basses.
