Hi Alembifriends ,

I was thinking : alembic's basses are phenomenal , we all know that , but what i can see is that i don't often see them on tv . When i look at mtv or any other music channel , i see fender's mostly...mark king , stanley apart or old bands , can you tell me who 's playing those magnificent instruments ? ( all of us ...i know )

I have discovered a lot of new (to me) Alembic players via 'Artists and their Alembics' in the Showcase section. Good luck!

I spotted an Alembic once on an ep of Ask This Old House: Set in suburban Boston a young apartment dweller wanted to fix a squeaky floor (room used as a recording studio). In the background on a stand was what looked to be a blond Spoiler (or SC with minimal controls). After the floor was fixed, the happy tenant played the segment out. No idea who he was.

Some goofball on that "Blind Date" show serenaded a confused-looking lady with his Essence on an episode I saw a few years back.

I saw someone in a beach band with a Spoiler on Univision's CALIENTE show a couple of years ago.

Geez, I was watching a 'Murder, She Wrote' episode today, featuring a story line involoving a wannabe country singer. They show the obligatory scene in the beer joint full of tough dudes in Carhartts, and the guy's band is playing all the usual TV guitars, but the bass guy was playing an ALEMBIC fan-head five but I couldn't see the whole bass ! Naturally, half way through the song a big bar fight breaks out. Our hero busts his plywood copy LP over the big dude's head. Thank God the guy didn't nail him with the ALEMBIC, he'd have been killed instantly, as it would NOT have shredded into sawdust like the prop did!!!

A few club members are signed recording artists and may show up on TV soon.

FWIW, when I dropped by the shop while my custom SC was in process, I asked Susan about why some luthiers want to put acrylic on and why some don't. Anyhow the conversation evolved to talk about the fact that Alembic does not have any paid endorsers, like so many other shops do. That may be one reason why you don't see too many "in the news". Kinda like his Royal Airness and his Air Jordan's...don't want to bite the hand that feeds ya...so to speak.
