I think it would be useful to add the low boost as I understand it is centered at 50 hz. and the filter only sweeps to 350 hz. However, Val tells me it would add quite a bit of time to an order for custom electronic mods on a series instrument. Mike |

I think I agree with Mike on both counts. - It's my guess that adding boost switches to Series electronics could significantly add to the wait time on a new bass. And as a mod to a used bass, it could take a very long time. - I have a bass with Europa electronics and I really like the boost/cut switches. But on the other hand, my Series I seems to do everything I need for it to do, and I don't feel any need for the switches. So while I think boost/cut switches are very nice, and I think it would be great if my Essence had them, I don't know that they are a necessary addition to Series electronics. But then I don't own a bass with both; and there are some folks around here who do! And of course there may be some Series owners who do wish they had the switches. |

Alain I have to agree with Dave. Although I don't have the switch on my Series I it seems I don't need it. If you have read any of my previous rants you would know that I think the Series electronics are far superior than the others. On my Essence it really seems to make a major difference in both treble and bass boost and cut, on my Balance K the differences are more subtle. The Series electronics to my ears are just fatter and much more rich than the others. That being said there is a point where I can create awesome tones from all the basses I just feel at the end of the day the Series cost is justified. Now to answer your question! No, I don't feel you need the switches however if you are a tweeker like me you might consider it in the end. Just know the reason that my 6 string is taking as long as it is are the electronics. http://alembic.com/info/JEfretless.html "Understated Elegance"~ now there's a bass where SII electronics were augmented with bass & treble knobs for each pup..... I dont know what frequencies they were centered at, but I'd assume this would serve as kind of a shelving EQ..... A similar idea, but more tweakable~ the way a SII should be.... |
