I've been thinking about doing something like this since I was knee-high. Back then, when I would walk around Alembic, I saw things from a different elevation, mainly I looked at the floor alot more! Sometimes I would make up little stories, and one was about when it snowed in our shop. The snow was magic, and it didn't fall from the sky, but it was there. We all made snowmen. Then the snowmen came to life and made a band and played our guitars. (Please remember I was 5 years old when I made that up!)

Anywhoo, as the weirdo person I am, I started collecting the "snow" when it was especially interesting. I sort of have a lot of it. And now it's in glass balls to decorate at Christmastime.

These will be in the Alembic Store later tonight. $10 for the small ones, $12 for the large. We'll pick which "snow" you get... they are all pretty.

Snow Large

Enjoy - if you are weird too!

If I sprinkle some Alembic Snow on my Jazz Bass will it make it sound like a Series bass? :-)

I added these to the Alembic store here. Please note that the checkout is all screwy for USPS First Class rates. The cart will show the wrong price, since it calculates for UPS only. I will only charge your card for the $2.24 postage within the US. If you use Paypal, I'll refund the difference. What a pain, huh?

There are a limited amount of these available so don't delay if you want to make sure you can decorate with these. There's one less, because I broke one today while making them. They don't like landing on concrete floors at all.

Someone asked me if these were heavy - not even slightly! The wood inside is mostly very thin shavings. They come from the jointers, shapers, routers, and handplanes we use. The ornament in the box is only 4 ounces to ship, so these are light weight and very appropriate for tree decorating.

I just ordered one Mica! Will the attached card say what kind of wood is inside? I would love some Coco Bolo if you have any!

Beautiful, both the idea and the execution.

The mail today arrived with our new Alembic ornament. Thank you Mica for your thoughtful kindness, and yes my wife loves it. It will be a part of our Christmas tradition going forward. You do not have to thank me, or I'm sure any of us for believing in Alembic. I thank Alembic for the artistry of my basses and being part, even just a small part, of what Alembic is. Merry Christmas to all at Alembic. We hope to make a visit in the new year, God willing and if the creek don't rise..

Mica, I received my Alembic Snow ornament today & it is beautiful! Thank you so much for the selection you chose for me, it was my favorite from the pictures you posted & part of the recipe for my new Europa, so that makes it even more special! I love the bow tie, really nice touch! The hand written note by you shows what a caring & classy company Alembic is! I second Kenn's sentiments, no need to thank me for believing in Alembic, I'm just honored to be counted among the fortunate few who are lucky enough to own one of these amazing instruments you create! Merry Christmas to you & your family & to all the wonderful workers who create magic out of trees!

I hung the ornament front & center on my tree! We have a very traditional tree with memories & keepsakes that our children made growing up, & now I have a new memory & addition to the tradition, Alembic Snow!

I asked Mica about that Jazzyvee, but she said that wasn't possible. The creation of one instrument doesn't produce that much "snow," apparently most is vacuumed up in the dust collection system. It took Mica a long time to save up enough snow to make these beautiful ornaments. The Vermillion & Maple in my ornament are both woods that will be in my Europa, so I was trilled with Mica's choice for me!
