I am working on my first deal for an alembic guitar, I have been mainly a PRS player till now. I am about to purchase a Orion Baritone in near mint condition, what do you think the going price on these would be? It has a darker rosewood looking top on it.. so not maple or anything light.. but neither I or the owner know the wood.

Hans,

$1000 is a great price. The top may be cocobolo, which would make it even better (in my book, at least).

If you have the serial number, you can make a request here for the build record (make a thread with "serial number request" in the title). That will have the woods that the guitar was constructed from.

Orion Baritones don't trade very often, so I don't know if it is possible to determine a "going price". I like Brad's suggestion. Hopefully, the members that follow the guitar prices might have some more suggestions.

I've got 3 Orion Baritones listed in my sertial number database, but only one shows a price: $3680. There's no eBay data shown, so it's probably a store price, which also probably means it hasn't sold yet. Hang on...

Ah. It was the Orion Baritone from the Alembic store, sold new (with dealer discount) through Superbass for $3680.

listing here

I also have one Orion Baritone in my eBay database. It sold for $1499.99 on a Buy Now, on 5/23/05. No serial number given, which is why it's not in my main database. It had a maple top over a mahogany body, with a walnut accent lam.
