Recently purchased a Lexicon MPX-1/R-1 from club member Charles. I'm the opposite of an electronics wiz and could use some help as to how to best set it up in a rig that includes and F1-X and SF-2. Suggestions?

Personally, I would be inclined to try F-1X > SF-2 > MPX-1 > power amp.

Hey Brian, When I used the Lexicon I hooked it up as follows (The F-1X Send to the Lexicon Input) & (The F-1X return to the Lexicon output). Now keep in mind that I have a Series Bass, so I used the Lexicon for my Treble only. For my Bottom End I used the EBS Octabass and The Boss 7 band EQ for a fuller bottom. I think that if you wanted the lexicon to go through both pre-amps you would need two "Y"cables (one "Y" for each side to jump over to/add the Super Filter too) It's been a long time since I had a SF and don't remember how the input/outputs are configured. But I'm sure there are alot of members here that will be able to guide you as needed! I'm sure that you will enjoy having the ability to enhance your tonal palette with the Lexicon as did I.

Did you ever get this going? I would probably start out with ModerDave's suggestion, but I'd also try it in a number of other ways. One other way might be to go SF-2>F-1X>MPX in the effects loop. I'm using an F2B in front of an MPX and then to a power amp, and that works pretty well, except that running the outputs of the MPX to both the amp and the PA can cause noise, so if you have it in the FX loop you can make use of the F-1X DI, which is an excellent DI. I end up using a cheaper Radial, but it's another thing to carry around and doesn't sound as good as the Alembic DI.

It all depends on the sounds you want to go for and what bass you are using. If I added the SF-2 to my rig, I'd probably do it before the F2B and have it all in stereo, using the F2B to mix it to mono for the MPX. On the other hand, if I continued the stereo path into the MPX, I could then set up each pickup with its own effects chain (the MPX is nice like that) and do what Chalie did all in one box. Just keep track of the gain structure so that each part of the chain doesn't overload (or under load) the next.

Have fun!

Edwin:

I plugged it in via Dave's suggestion and tried it for about 5 minutes. That was all the time I've had. Since September I've had faculty from Costa Rica, the Russian Federation, and most recently India staying with my wife and me as part of international grants I have with various governmental agencies. Unfortunately, living in a 3-bedroom house my study/studio has been used as a bedroom for the past 8-weeks. I grabbed one small practice amp and a bass and have been restricted to practicing in my master bedroom during the short periods of time when I haven't had responsibility for entertaining, educating, and chauffeuring people from one meeting to another. Everyone left this week so hopefully in the next few days I'll have something to report.
