Just out of curiousity, I wonder which model/ body shape/ custom option is the most requested? Anyone care to wager a guess? I'm sure that the Balance K is currently very hot as it is the newest but historicaly, I wonder which model Alembic has built the most? Series 1 would be my guess as they have had a lengthy head start. As prices continue to climb however, I would think that over the years, the lesser expensive models would eventually have surpased the series basses as the increased affordabilty makes them more accesible to a greater number of players. My best guess would be the Epic, closely followed by the Essence... Wilfred |

I'd have to agree with Mike, I think it's called the "Standard Point Body" perhaps followed by the "Small Standard Body". stoney |

I'm going to guess the Epic, followed by the Standard Point Body. This should be a fun thread. Bones |

My guess is that in the last dozen years it would be the Epic. Over the entire 35 years, I would go along with Mike and say the Series. Rich |

I think this thread needs to be qualified since most of the current designs aside from the Series I/II models are from the 1990s. I think it would be curious to find out how many Spoilers were built between 1980 and now -- I have seen tons of them used and a lot of people own them. Then throw in the Epic and Orion models. I'm going to guess that the Orion would have caught up to the Epic in popularity since it has a more Jazz Bass look and people always love Fender Jazz models. But in the last 20 years or so I bet the Spoiler wins out. Just my guess. |

<sitting on a database of 676+ instruments which, while not definitive, should give some idea of relative proportions> Maybe a contest to see who gets closest to the percentage breakdowns of various model types? If you guys are interested, I'll post up a list of the various types I've been tracking. (For instance, I differentiate between Orion basses and guitars.) nic (Message edited by sfnic on August 01, 2005) |

This can't be answered until I get the records transferred to electronic format and we can make database queries. There's more than 13,000 records, and they are only kept sequentially. We've never kept a model breakdown record. But there is some progress on this front... Just over last weekend my dad got the machine that will be the database server up and running. Records for 2005 are first on the schedule, and then we'll ahve some idea of how long this big project will take. |
