https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6hbmchAjVM Note also his Alembic "Brown bass" and Alembic "Black bass" with Bigsby behind him. I don't understand the reasoning behind why Thompson made that Picollo bass to be a full 34. inch scale length bass, certainly when Clarke still is known for being a short scale player. In fact Thompson DID make him a short scale version later. But hey it's still an awesome bass and Stan certainly made good use of it. |

http://www.ctbasses.com/index.php?f=gpm85 Check out paragraphs 14 & 15 on the piccolo history. Carl and his phenomenal crew are still making amazing instruments to this day. To me Alembic and Carl Thompson instruments are the best that I have ever played. I have never seen or heard of a Carl Thompson bass being modified with Alembic electronics. That would be quite interesting! (Message edited by moongerm on December 23, 2014) |

Wouter, Thanks for that video . . . it may be illegal for me to enjoy something that much this early in the day. Great musicians all around. Always great fun to hear Gerry Brown. |

Cool video Wouter,Going back to 1977 or 1978 when I was 22 I saw Stanley at The Tower theater on 69th street in my hometown Philadelphia and Stan had those musicians with him. Anyway after the show I was sitting in the audience section and most of the audience left.James Tinsley, the soprano sax player called me over and said "you wanna meet Stanley?" Of course I said yes.....I'm 6'3" & Stanley made me look short! Anyway back then I was stupid enough to tell Stan that I wanted to jam with him sometime and he looked at me and graciously said "yeah ok" shook my hand and left! But the strangest thing though is that when James called me, he called me by name and I never met him before!! Three people that were with me asked if I knew James and I said no and they looked at me incredulously. Anyway...that's something I wanted to share. Thanks again for the link! |

Loved Stanley's playing and the band is most impressive |
