Hi guys, I'm new here and I'm from Brazil. I don't have an Alembic yet, but I've got a choice right now between an Epic 5 and an Excel 4. The Excel is a 2004, with only one fatboy pickup. I know It's only a few information about, but, in general basis, which one would you choose?

I think a lot depends on what you want with your sound. Both have the bass and treble tone controls so from that perspective only they are similar to use.
I guess it also depends on whether you are a 4 or 5 string bass player too. These days I play more 5 string that 4 string so that would push me towards the 5 string Epic bass. Both basses will give you a great but different Alembic sound. Having the two pickups plus a pan control will also give you more options with tone than a single pickup will.

Do you have the opportunity to try any before you buy?
I'm sure you will get other views of which to choose. Maybe you could buy both then keep the one you prefer and sell the other. ... :-)

Hi jazzyvee! Unfortunately, I can't try the basses. The Epic is almost 380 miles from my city, and the Excel 500 miles... If I'm going to one of these places, is for buying :-)
At this moment I'd like a 4-strings bass, considering that I have others 5-strings. My concern is this: the Epic is only US$ 200 more expensive, and if the quality is too much better, maybe I could buy that one rather than the Excel.
Thanks for helping!

Pueda culpar:

I have had both Excel and Epic basses, but in four strings only. If I had to choose between the two it would be an Excel every time. I like the feel and the look of the Excel better.
