How about the 5 pin plug. It looks rather odd. And also no logo as was indicated in above tread.

And don't Series instruments usually have a rotary pick up selector switch? And it also looks like someone stole the frets off the one on the left! LOL

Hey, watsgoinonhere ?

I just was away for a minute or two, letting the dog do his "business" (pics of the dog on another occasion). You are on the right track, folks, the baby in the middle does not quite fit the standards of Alembic. What I meant when refering to "advanced members" and an ancient thread, this has been discussed a few months ago, here in this topic "Alembic basses & guitars". Just scroll down the archieves, if you like, or just await the story behind this, called "baby's coming home".

There will be no prize for being the first finding this particular thread, but I KNOW that someone will remember the beauty framed by my two Alembics. My first post ever to this board referred to this, and you (being all of you gathered together in this outstanding forum) helped me a lot. And the story continues...

best wishes to all of you,

Hey, Bill,

I did not yet notice... but you are right, of course ! There's no f****ng frets on my Essence. Do I have a chance to call it a warranty issue ?? HELP!

No, I think the missing rotary switch on the centre bass is just one more indication for an Alembic-should-be... But things are much more weird than you, I, anybody would ever happen to imagine.

Rüdiger, your baby's coming home,
Alembicians, please try harder,

A slightly sharper photo might help - the bridge looks a little funky too, but hard to tell.

Where's the truss rod adjustment hiding?

..seems like the body edge doesn't have that comfy Alembic bullnose, looks a little too sharp.

I have serious doubts about the middle bass:
• there is no logo on the headstock
• the hatknobs look different (difficult to see on this picture)
• the 5-pin connector is totally different from what we're used to
• the body is sligtly different (more sharp edges)
• the tailpiece looks non-Alembic
• the pick-ups have 4 screws instead of the usual 2
• strange tuners
I believe it's a Fenandez Alembic copy or something like that.

Hello,

all of you are right, this is no Alembic but "just" a copy. The original owner has built it himself. Please refer to the original post: http://alembic.com/club/messages/393/17307.html?1111685467.

That alone looked like a scam as the bass was posted in ebay as "Alembic", but folks, as I mentioned before, this was just the beginning...

Maybe it's just me but given the topic of this thread, I think it's hilarious that your band name is The Fakers. BTW, how does this jewel sound? Is it active or passive? Much more weird huh? The weirdest conclusion of this story that I can think of is that you hooked up with the single mother of four and are living happily ever after.

Brother Sam!!!

I love your jumping to conclusions! A whole movie is now playing for my eyes!
We really have to meet once!
Ok-ok-ok ...in our Irish pub ... Thomas Stapleton's???
As long as I don't have to follow you on the Guiness stouts!

Paul TBO

MMM ...would you accept a fellow Tullamore or Connomaran drinker??? Just small ones!

BTW ...I really like the shape of the bass!

No, Sam, not quite,

in fact I got scammed twice. First time in March when I bought this bass via Ebay. It was sold as Alembic, but when I picked it up, I already knew it wasn't. I did not want it in the first place, but it was nice, sounded marvellous, and I took it for US$ 650 instead of US$ 1,450.

Then, for a while, me and the baby were living happily together til I decided to trade this bass for maybe another Alembic. I tried to sell it via ebay last week.

Six hours before the auction ended, the original owner contacted me and informed me the bass was stolen away from him in January. In a second, I lost both ownership and consciousness. I was reported to police and ebay, and I am threatened to give this beauty back to the original owner.

And this is not a story, if it only were... Anyway, this bass is not an Alembic, but handmade by an Alembic-fanatic in Dortmund/Germany, and it will return to him next week. I lost a bunch of greenbacks, and if the single mother is not selling her kids, I never will get back a dime.

BTW: The fakers fake around every Friday evening in Wiesbaden/Germany, you are heartly invited to visit us. We chose that name because we do cover songs of The Who, Deep Purple, Beatles. On "Who By Numbers" is a song called however much I booze, and the lyrics start "I see myself on TV, I'm a faker, paper clown..."

best wishes to all of you,

Speicky (no fake !)

Sorry if the word story got lost in translation. I didn't mean a fictional story but a recounting of things that happened. Sorry also about the bad experience. That really sucks.

Brother Paul
Yes, my mind tends to go off in strange directions sometimes. Tullamore Dew is more than acceptable! It's not called the Water of Life for nothing. When I get it worked into the budget you're on. Speicky, please join us. Of course it won't be in the next few months.

Hi there, first of all thank u speicky that I´ll get my baby back! I´m the one who built the bass in the middle. It took me about 6 years to build it up. The pickups and electronics are original Alembic. And u all are right, the shaping is not the real one, ´cause I only had some pics to work with. But all in all this is my little dream of Alembic here in Dortmund!

Thanks and c u speicky here in Do
