Having bought a used distillate (which I love) about 5 months ago, I put the elixir strings on it that I use with my other basses. I realized that the high end/treble that I get out of the elixirs is a bit much for my tastes.
So can anyone recommend some 4 string sets for me or tell me what they use. I'm just looking for something with good growl/fingerstyle/funk.
I haven't tried strings out in about 5 years and have no desire to try a bunch out, but I'm willing.

There have been numerous past threads on strings. There is a post on this subject in the Must Reads section. And you might want to run a search. You'll find quite a lot of testimonials on different strings. The gist of the past threads taken as a whole is that Alembic players play pretty much all brands and types of strings. When you run your search you might want to try searching for one brand and go from there.

I'm wondering what strings to put on my medium-scale Spiler, and if I have to use medium-scale strings or if long-scales will fit on it. Anyone got any ideas or thoughts on whether a set of Rotosounds would fit on a Spoiler ok?

Eric, if you like the feel of flats but want a brighter sound, have you tried half rounds? I experimented with about 6 different sets of strings (flat, round, nickel, steel) last year. I didn't include the half rounds that I used years ago and really liked (duh!). I got some a few months ago for my Epics and really like them. For me the string search seems to be over, for now anyway. I don't know how many companies make them but the ones I have are by D'Addario.
