I read somewhere that Jason Newsted used Alembics in Metallica. If so, which model(s) did he use?
Thanks, D.M.

i saw a "behind the music" type deal on one of the channels and he was playing a dislate type body, with the above pickup configuration-the video footage was from the "and justice for all" tour if that helps

We made Jason a "load" of basses. The first one he got was a stock Persuader very similar to Cliff Burton's Spoiler bass. Later he had us start making custm basses for him.

The first round were Elans with JPJ pickup configuration. Round II were Europas. These werre all Maple body and top with an Almost Black finish. The back of the neck was left clear for a satin feel.

While we were building the Europas, he finally tried out a Series II in Walnut (which he also bought) and had us change out all the electronics in the Elans he already had and the Europas we were building to Series II. His 10-string is the one in our previous brochure.

I think his collection was up to 13 pieces. He also has two of the most beautiful 20th Anniversary models in Walnut.

My sidenote: here's a toy with a replica of his 5-string Europa/Series II:

Mica - thanks for the rundown... I remember seeing a killer Series II 5-string in the insane burl rosewood (later, the 25th Anniversary wood)at NAMM many years ago. I asked about buying that one at the time and was told that it was going to one of your German dealers. Some time later, I heard through the grapevine that it had never went to Germany and went to Jason instead. Is that true?

Seeing that killer burl inspired me to have my crazy Series II built in the same wood a year later.

I remember seeing the transparent black 10 string at the shop when I went up to pick woods for my bass. You really understate that finish by calling it "Almost Black". It really more like "Unbelievable flamed maple at 5 minutes past midnight"!
