Some thoughts on email which I hope will be helpful not only as pertains to this club specifically but to emailing generally.

For most members of this club, your email address does not resemble your club username. Thus when you send email to a fellow club member, chances are they aren't going to recognize who it is from. Thus, it is a good idea to include your username in the text of your message.

After checking the name, the next thing most folks look at when sifting through all the spam in the inbox is the subject. If the subject isn't something specifically recognizable and the sender's email address isn't recognizable, chances are the message will be deleted as spam.

Thus that incredibly generous offer you were making on that one of a kind bass you were lusting after in the for sale section will never be read by the seller, who thought it was just another fake Viagra offer.

Thus, since most of you are using email addresses that aren't going to be immediately recognizable by fellow club members, it would probably be a good idea to put the word "Alembic" somewhere early in the subject line.

Another good idea; in the text of your message, if you are talking about a specific post or thread, provide a link to the thread.

Dave - Great post. When talking to other members and bass folk in general, I always put Alembic or whatever the subjet is in the subject line. I find that works well. I delete anything I don't recognize, and I am sure everyone here does too! I was going to delete an email just recently, but I recognized something familiar in the subject line f2b . It turned out to be another club member that needed help with his pre amp.

Huh ?
Nigerian viagra is $25 mil ? And is available as ribbed suppositories ? Really ?

Dave and Keavin both have good points..report or block the spam and you'll be ok..but you will miss the Nigerian viagra and interesting things like that.
Seems like all I've gotten lately are things from AARP and insurance come ons.
Maybe one day spam will come as suppositories too.
Spam spam spam spam spam...and spam !

Ok I guess I should put something as a heading here huh...

I'm having way too much fun with this (partially due to having way too much time on my hands).
So let's not forget the mortage application adds which I would translate to... (wait for it now)

"You've been PRE-APPROVED for Nigerian Bass Spam"
I better get back to work...

Where do I report Nigerian offers of $25,000,000? Also, where does one report email for bigger breasts; bigger penises; lotteries that I've won, even though I never entered; no question prescriptions by mail; mortgages; local hot cheating wives; etc. I'm sure this is what Al Gore had in mind when he invented the internet!!!! LOL

Bill

'where does one report email for bigger breasts; bigger penises; local hot cheating wives; etc.'

You can report those to me, I wont do anything about em, but I can always use a laugh !

Should be able to report the rest of the stuff to your ISP.

Gary (Bass Spamer)

Ps..thank God we are blessed with the likes of Al Gore, Alexander Haig, Robbin Williams, and Johnathan Winters.
