Hi Guys, as already posted on the "For Sale" thread I will sell my Spyders due to the heavyness and size of the cases. I will go for the easier to handle Dragon Wing which is currently in the make for me: "Tears for John". To replace the Spyder 8string I am thinking to order a Dragon Wing 8string. The problem for me at the moment is what headstock design would fit to keep all the 8 tuners. Plse guys, give me your input and opinion on this. Many greetings and many thanks Oliver (Spyderman) |

Ollie, If you're not going to have the Spyders, will you still be the Spyderman? ;-) As a fellow Dragon Wing owner, I would think they'd have to modify headstock some. Seeing as they are four on a side, they might have to lengthen it, or maybe even create a new headstock to accomodate the extra tuners. A longer headstock would affect the balance I should think, but I'll defer to the pros at Alembic on that one. Have you talked to Susan, Mica, or Val about it? I'm sure they'd have some ideas. One thing's for sure - an 8 string Dragon's Wing would sound awesome. I see you're still looking for a Status Buzzard I. Hope you get one, but as you know they are rarer than hen's teeth these days, and the ones that are available ... well, they're out of my reach anyway. Best regards, Alan |

Hey Alan, I think I could keep the name or? No it is just a real fresh idea and I havenīt talked to Mica or Susan about this. I am sure that the headstock needs to be enlarged even if I would take small and big tuners mixed. But an 8 string Dragon would be sexy or? Oliver (Spyderman) |

Ollie, I imagine you'll always be the Spyderman! I agree than an 8 string would look great. I took a look at Rog's in the custom archive, and it seems to me they'd have to design another headstock for an 8 string - the current one is just too small for 8 tuners, even the mini ones. But, if anyone can do it, Alembic can. Alan |

Here's a few thoughts on tuner placement for an 8 string dragons wing......... take a look at a Buzzard 8 string headstock...... or I once had a Kramer 8 string bass with the aluminum neck and tuning fork looking headstock, it had the main tuners ( 2 per side on the headstock) and the octave tuners on the body behind the bridge, it looked kinda weird, but was pretty cool and unique, the strings were strung both ways tho........main string ball ends at the bridge and octave string ball ends at the headstock. I might have a pic somewhere, if I find it I'll put it up. B. |

B I just wanna come up with the same idea: put the octave tuners behind the bridge on the body and anchors the ball-side on the headstock??? Could be cool! Ollie ...you can't be Siderman anymore than but ...don't be sad ...you'll be Dragonman!!! Paul TBO |

Ouch! "Dragonman" sounds painful. Perhaps with elevator shoes or even stilts? Mike |

Bee, I really like the idea with the backside tuners. I do remember well the Kramers. They looked weird but as the Dragons have this space cutout behind the bridge there would be a good place to set in 4 minituners. As for the name, I am still thinking about a new one. Spyderman shure sounds great, but Dragonman? Sure it is a development from a spider to a dragon but what about the origal design name of the Dragon Wing, following the original plans for John: DRAGON CLAW Oliver (Spyderman, Dragonman, Dragon Claw??? ) PS. The Spyders are for sale. Anyone interested? |

I would mirror the shape of the treble side of the DW headstock.... It would be kind of like a knob headstock, except you'd have a "talon" going each way. |

There is a guitar manufacturer here in Scotland that has a 10 string bass with the tuners behind the bridge. You can see the pictures at: http://www.moonguitars.co.uk/moonhome.html Scroll down the page just a bit. |
