I know that "searchers of the sound" are the laughing stock of the bass-community, but what the heck; we´re a group of religious fanatics so why should we differ? I really enjoyed reading the "Phil tone"-thread and would like to share my memorable moment with you; it came when I plugged my 4str Epic (stringed with Pyramid Gold Flats) into a ´70s Guild Thunderbass amp powering a modrn Epifani 4x10ULcab. The sound mimicked almost to perfection the Phil-sound around autumn 1971 (as exemplified on the fantastic Dicks Picks 35). I don´t know why, I´m just happy with it. From a sound-psychology-point-of-view it shouldn´t be possible (Phil played a totally different LOUD volumes). I guess its a tiny copy of "tube amp driving lots of nice speakers". And the SF2 will probably help to pinpoint the weirder tones on DP35...but for now I´m satisfied. I did the same with my Guild Starfire (with Dark Star pickups) but it didn´t work as well...it was the Alembic that did it!

Religious fanatics? There's no need to be insulting!

No there is not. I´m not aiming at offending. I´m all in there, myself! And enjoying it! And having FUN!
