Do you have other woods for necks?

A wenge neckthru, or a paduak one would be great.

Is it possible to change?

is there any no charge wood?

thx

We don't use Wenge in necks. Padauk is fine for stringers, but not for the main component. These woods are suitable for main neck woods:

Maple
Purpleheart
Ebony
Mahogany

The main wood needs to be very straight grained.

For the smaller laminates, these woods will work OK:

Purpleheart*
Ebony
Maple*
Walnut*
Beech
Cherry
Padauk* (Vermilion)

If the standard neck for the model uses veneers (Excel, Orion, Epic, Essence, Rogue), there is an additional charge for adding them, and it can vary depending on the wood from $200-1450.

Woods marked with a * are no charge options if the model already comes with the thicker neck laminates.

Always consider that changing the neck wood will change the sound more than other wood choices you make.

Ok... so how much for a purpleheart laminate on a Essence 5?

(if not 200, what wood would be 200 on Essence?)

Thx

A 5-piece Maple and Purpleheart neck is a $200 upgrade on an Essence bass.

How much for a 7 piece Maple and Purpleheart on an essence 5?

Could I get a 5 piece on a 5 stringer? (any pictures of one?)

Sorry about the confusion. Alembics can be very confusing with all the options, even for me.

I shoudl have correctly tol dyou a 7-piece neck on an Essence 5-string is $200.

We prefer to use 7 pieces for the 5-string necks. I don't believe weve ever made one with a 5-piece Maple and Purpleheart neck, so I don' have a photograph.

cut your hair if its a bad hair day!

ps go for the tone thats all. after all that's what alembic is all about; TONE. like "steel balls lined up on a piece of sloping glass..." thanks ron, you da man!!

recently i was playing prototype alembic for my father comparing it to a fender 92 jazz bass; his comments...:
the fender sounds like a "jc pennys" verses a grand piano... the only thing we noted is that the sustain is so brilliant that the upper overtones tend to (on lonGGGG tones only)ride a little sharp as they decay... this is a natural thing with the upper harmonics with ANY note as the fundamental dies out... but then again when does a bass tone resonate for +15 seconds or so!!! TONE BABY...

Hey John,

welcome to the club!
Our official welcomer (the "other Paul") will meet you soon.
How have I to interpret that "alembic prototype" thing? Is there an Alembic in the make for your dad?
How about some pictures in the Introductions -department huh? You have to realise we Alembicians are not curious (at all) but we do like to know A LOT about you and your bass (and your dad of course). LOL
About the Jazz-bass... well ..it seems a litlle hard on those. I already noticed that a lot of Alembicians actually own a Jazz-bass too! So ...why should that be.

Take care!
Paul
