HI

What are the sound different between, an Alembic series 1 and the Mark King signature?

I know the sound of the Series 1 from old records with Stanley Clarke, Louis Johnson, Wizard from MF, and Larry Graham etc, but I don’t know have the MK signature sound.
I am very interested in that classic Alembic slap sound

The reason why is because I can buy this Alembic MK (pictures) fore 3000$ but it is not possible fore me to try it, the seller lives far away from me, and he will sent it to me if I buy it.

By the way is there somewhere I can hear a mp3 or a record were you can hear the Alembic MK signature bass.

(Hope you understand my English I am from overseas)

Thanks again
Adrian

$3000 is an excellent deal for that instrument, especially in Europe. It will not quite sound like a Series instrument, but it's as close as you can get without spending a lot more money. Of course, you can occasionally find an older Series instrument for around the same price, but it won't be in anything like that condition. Many of us are quite satisfied with the Signature electronics package.

Good luck, and I hope you have a secure transaction!

Hi Ollie
Great sound
How do you get that sound with all the middle cut out
It's the sound I like, but don't seem to get it from my Series 1----------I get the Mark King "staring at the sun " kinda sound But would like to know how to remove the MID range to get that sound

Regards
George

Hey George,
When I recorded that I plugged my bass straight into the line in on my sound card. I had the Tone filter on the rear PU turned full counter clockwise with the boost switch on. I had the tone filter for the front PK at full clockwise with the boost switch off. I had the PU pan set dead center and had the volume about 3/4 up. This setting also sounds great through my amp with little or no eq adjustment on my amp.

I have been told that if you play a Signature through an SF-2 Superfilter, you can get a Series I / II sound. I never tried it, but maybe that's an option for Adrian?

Anybody able to verify that?

Peace,

James

You guys ever notice on youtube that the sound is usually behind the video like a delay or something?
That is a cool groove Adrian! I love funk, could play it all night.

Malthumb, I have a signature and an SF-2 and they are an incredible combination. However I've never had the chance to compare them side by side with a Series I or II bass. I know that the fact that the series pickups are single coil means they will sound different to the Signature bass.jazzyvee

I guess you learn something everyday. I didn't know Series are single coiled pickups. I guess that explains the hum canceling pu in the center?

"I guess that explains the hum canceling pu in the center?"

Yep, that's a pickup without poles which functions as a hum nuker for the single coils. Very cool.
