Mica - would love to see a pic of the coil that your father uses to test for RF interference..just some of us technofreaks might be interested.

My guess would be a Tesla coil -ish setup, with a high-voltage spark gap in the room. Lots of RF hash going on there. Of course, you would have to use an oscilloscope on the output of the bass to see what's going on with it...
