Hi folks,

Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the older SB pickups from an SB/AE-1 set? They look similar to 4-string FatBoys or AXYs, but I've only seen a photo, so can't be sure.

Cheers,

Justin

SB sets use regular humbucker-sized pickups, but the wiring is made for the Steinberger basses with extra-long wiring.

Thanks Mica, but are you talking roughly 4.25" X 1.75" in size, like a Fatboy? I have an Ibanez Musician fretless with two humbuckers that are very similar, so hoping they would fit straight in.

I was looking at that set, too. The electronics in the Steinberger I just acquired are in need of some maintenance/replacement. Do those pickups have a mount system to work with the Steinberger as well?

Thanks!

I just went and meausred one that's on a Further guitar in the showroom. They are about 1-1/2" by 2-5/8 inches, a direct retrofit size for humbuckers.

Thanks, sounds too narrow for the Ibanez, the existing pickups are 4.25" and the SBs are only just wider than the string spacing, so better pass. All yours, bsee! :-)

The pickups on my Steinberger measure 1-7/16" by 2-11/16". Almost as big an issue is the mounting system. I suppose it's a question for the eBay seller, since Alembic may have issued these in more than one configuration.

I presume you are talking about the ones for sale by MrFatB*stard, he said they are 70mm Long x 38mm Wide, which is same as yours. Sure must have narrow string-spacing!

Thanks for the info. By the way, spacing seems to be around 16.5mm on center.

Oh, and the current pickups measure more like 68mm x 36mm. If they are really 70 x 38, they might not drop in and I really don't want to start shaving a 20 year old Steinberger.

Don't worry, I am happy to snap them up to replace my humbucker sized Bartolinis in my Guild Starfire. Just what I was looking for! I was thinking of routing for AXYs, but I think these will drop right in!

If anyone else is dead set on them, let me know so we don't just drive up the price needlessly.

I have already heard from one other person who is interested in these, so it seems there is some competition for us on the horizon. Of course, there are also the four people who already have bids in, so who knows what the total headcount will be when it comes down to it.
