Mica,

I just browsed through the Wood bank section and realized there are many woods (especially in the Coco Bolo section) that are already sold.

I'd guess, by now most of them must have been made into finished instruments, right? Wouldn't it be cool to post pictures of the finished instruments within their according Wood bank threat? Or post links to their according instrument showcase or factory-to-customer threats, if they exist.

I am sure it would be very educative to everybody to see the before and after state of each individual piece of wood.

Just an idea, of course.

Hi Hartmut. This is a great idea, but Mica and Val are already so busy I doubt they will do it on an official basis.

If you watch the FTC pages closely, you can see some of the pieces from the bank being built.

Here's one for you... this is the top and this is the back for my Dragonfly

Maybe some other folks will chime in? It would be cool to see the before and after pics.

Take care,
Charles

Hey Charles,

That's a great wood for "just" a back! And thanks for your links! They are exactly the connection I was talking about. Although having the links from inside the wood bank itself would be even cooler for those who are browsing it.

Beautiful "Dragonfly"!

That was the original plan in the wood bank - to help people visualize how a raw board transforms when finished. Tracking it has proven to be more work though! I do hope someday to get the wood bank back on track, and add some of the new bookmatches we've got.

Hey Tom,

It's fun to find the right spot on the original plank that ended up on your guitar. Thanks for the post!

lidon2001,

That's a great before and after example. Nice to see the template already marked out. Do you remember if there is an original thread of your wood in the wood bank?

Thanks Mica, the wood bank surely is a mean teaser. Although I am sure you have so much wood selections in your shop that I would probably always try to visit your shop for selecting my favorite wood.

Besides, I always wondered what became of that one piece of greenish olive wood that Bob showed me when I selected my wood in 1996. Would you know? It had a wonderful olive smell and the greenish color was very unusual too. I wonder if it ever made into an instrument? Would love to see the result.

Anyway, keep it coming folks!

Dang, Tom, that is one of the sweetest looking basses I've ever seen! It's so petite and elegant! I always enjoy seeing it; thanks for the post.

Hello Hartmut,

I don't believe the wood used for my bass was listed in the bank. A member picked this out of Alembic's stash during a visit, and then decided on a different piece.

Thanks Charles. I've had it a about a year now and I continue to be overwhelmed by its beauty and tone.

It is Coco Bolo, I assume?

It is cocobolo, and you can see it here. That piece looked awfully familiar.

I'm the in-duh-vidual who picked that board initially (my wife still thinks I should've used it), but decided to switch to this. Admittedly, Tom's bass came out beautifully, my wife may have had a point.

I'm waiting for inlay, and then maybe it'll get to have its picture taken on the sofa for comparison.
