Has anyone used the F-1X for 6 string guitars. I only see them advertised for basses and am contemplating using this amp for my guitar. If so, how does it sound? |

I considered doing that before when I was thinking of getting a single rack system that I could use easily for both guitar and bass. I have an f-1x but I don't think I've tried it with guitar yet. Maybe I should at least try it out... I'd be interested in reading any feedback you get on this especially in a live gig context. Jazzyvee |

I use mine from time to time for guitar. I swap my rack gear about to keep things in 'circulation'. At the moment for guitar I use a Trace elliot V Type preamp, which is also based on the Fender Showman circuit. My F1X is doing bass duty at the moment. In the studio , I wire the trace preamp to a DBX electronic crossover, and adjust the filter to approx. 3.2 KHx to 3.5 Khz - this effectively functions as a speaker simulator and I go direct to board, patch in some reverb, work the EQ on the preamp and get a a great clean tone. When I switch preamps around and use the F1X for guitar, I use the F1X's low pass out and use the internal crossover. This works fine. For live work or to use a power amp and cabs, of course I use the full freq. outputs. The one major diff. is this: with electric bass, I tend to keep the EQ pretty much flat, but with elec. guitar - I have the bright switch 'on' , and the bass and treble boosted to get a Fender amp tone. When I started using these preamps for guitar about 4 years back, I sold my triaxis and my JMP1. For distortion tones, I feed a couple of TS9s and I get the distortion tones I need (At my age I don't need that much distortion in my life!) . For live guitar work I use either the trace or the F1X, a Carver power amp, and a pair of Marshall cabs with 1X 12 each. I used to patch a Qaudraverb for efx but I sold that with the Triaxis and don't have a digital efx rack anymore. But you get the idea..... BTW, Happy New Year. |
