Hi Ovid, Thanks for the heads up. 'Leftybass.com', a little thing, but it's stuff like this that makes me realize just how cool the times are that we live in, (technology wise and of course disregarding all the bad things that are happening in the world). Very cool, though in quickly perusing the site I become aware of not so much that I'm no longer 'alone' so to speak but, just how small a minority I'm in, numbers/percentage wise, (chick bassist and a soloist on top of that). No big...and actually kinda cool. I'm more 'special' than I realized. ;) To answer your question about my looper, it's a Boss RC-50. I'm quite pleased with it, though I wish it had the Echoplex capability of 'stacking, or 'extending' or 'layering' or 'something or another/whatever it's called' (where you can extend your initial loop time when adding longer secondary phrases on top). But, for twice the price approx. and less record time? Just can't see it. Especially when on some of my tunes I lay down a multipart progression in advance to catch verse, chorus and maybe a bridge section. Doing that live can take way too much time. For example, Beck's version of 'She's a Woman'. Bass part through intro, verse and chorus section with a second loop of chording rhythm all the way through on top, then live melody. Way too long to 'set up' and do live. (I learned this when covering Clapton's 'Wonderful Tonight'. When I got my synth, I said 'Cool' and went crazy when I played the bass, chords, organ, strings and maybe even piano voicings. By the time I got to where I would play melody, multi-minutes later, the crowd could and would lose interest. Bummer, though educational. Live and learn.) And there ya go. ;) Regards, Kimberly PS. Hi Kimberley Nice notes on the ~RC 50. Might like to get one. Have been wanting a looper of some sort since I saw the guitarist, Pierre Bensusan in 1991 (http://www.pierrebensusan.com/)... He used a TC electronic delay and had 64 seconds of time. Say hi to Arni at leftybass.com, BTW, he has an Alembic lefty too. best ovid | ||

Hi Guys, Andrew, thank you very much. I've up to seven videos on YouTube as of a few days ago. Search for 'bassplayerkimberly' and you'll find'em no problem. Enjoy. Dino, thank you also. Quite the impression background you've got from looking at your website. I also noticed you seem to know Tal. How very cool. If you cross paths with her again, wish her the best for me. She's the next generation and she's off to a great start and seems like a real sweetie. If I wore a hat, I'd take it off to her. As far as myself getting gigs, it's 'a hard gig'. Not too many people, comparatively speaking, go the bass soloist route with the exception of the classical orchestral types. One of my greatest challenges is the 'educating' that a bass soloist can 'be a force to be reckoned with', or at least viable for performances. ;) Being an instrumentalist compounds the difficulty as well. However, as I'm doing this on one level as a project just to see, but mainly for me, and as I'm able to invest the time and money into establishing myself whatever happens, I'm having and will continue to have a wonderful time. Hey Kimberly, I've met Tal a number of times. She's a great player and is really up and coming. It was nice to see BP Magazine give her some kudos in the Stanley issue. I always make fun of her cause when I see her at trade shows, she's literally DRAGGING that Sadowsky around on the ground. I keep asking her if she needs a gig bag. I know what you mean about hard gigs. Have you had anyone come up to you and request Mustang Sally yet? That's always a good one, especially for an instrumentalist. You just keep on fighting the good fight and they'll come around. And hey, if you ever need a bass player to back you up..... ah never mind. I'm just trying to be funny!!!! peace, Dino |
