I talked to my drummer friend, and the 31st works for him. So is it the 31st then? I'd propose the early afternoon, starting say about 2 p.m. I have my guitar rig there and I could bring another guitar amp or two, if needed. People are going to have to bring bass rigs if you want 'em. Also guitar stands for each instrument if we want to do a group photo. The load in situation is great. You can back right up to the door. No stairs and stuff will need to be moved all of about 20 feet. Let me know if you're in by emailing me directly. Please put "Alembic Gathering" in the subject line. Assuming we agree on this date and time, I'll email out directions.

Olie: too bad you won't be able to make it. We'll raise a glass of root beer (or some kind of beer, I'm sure) in your honor. I guess you'll just have to suffer in the Caribbean instead. Watch out for those pirates! LOL

So, is anyone coming?

There is an idea afoot to also have a pot luck and bbq. There is plenty of room and appropriate facilities to do this. I will need a head count, then we can figure who's bringing what. All directions, the address, etc., will only be disseminated by direct email, so if you want in, better get in touch. My email is in my profile.

Checking with the Senior Management.

What are the planned start and end times? If we got done early enough, I could do a down and back (i.e. same day flights).

Start time, as Bill mentioned, looks to be about 2:00 in the afternoon. As far as end time, I would certainly think we can't be playing past 10:00pm, and probably alot earlier than that. Also, I think that we will need some amplification, so if you have room, bring a rig. There should be plenty of people to help load/unload.

Bill, you did get that my e-mail WAS my response, right?.

Olie:

How about you come out here and send me to the Carribean! This looks like it's stacking up to be a lot of fun, but if you pick this over the tropics and clear warm water, well I think I know a doctor you might want to talk to. LOL

Everyone:

Where we will be has no sound problems whatsoever. We can get as loud as we want as late as we want. More realistically, I was envisioning running to the early evening. I think after several hours of oohing and ahhing at instruments, jamming, bbqing, eating, and just plain hanging out, we'll all be fully satiated and ready to call it a day. Also, there may be some who, after finding their way there, may prefer to drive out in the daylight.

Bill,

Don't recommend that doctor, since his current "prescription" clearly isn't working, i.e. he really should stop taking that stuff...

If you get my meaning.

Hey, Bill

I guess a great mind thinks alike...or...ah...anyway, that's pretty much what I was thinking, early evening. If the road is like Grizzly Peak (I imagine it's in the same general area), then yeah, not too late on that road.

Maybe we could move the get-together to Ollie's place in the Carribean...

Ken:

The road to Canyon makes Grizzly Peak look like 580! As for moving this to the Carribean, I'm in. You charter the plane, I'll bring the diet coke. Olie, can we all crash on your hotel room couch? hehehehe

Is this road just twisty over cliffs and such or is it unpaved as well?

Got your mail.

Senior Management gave the A-OK, so I'll likely be coming through in the anti-prius (Denali)-- I could pick you up with as much gear as you're willing to bring. Including amps, or a couple uprights. :-)

Valentino:

Narrow, twisty, 1000 foot cliffs, a few rope and bamboo bridges spanning huge canyons full of dinosaurs and giant monkeys, pygmies with blow guns, martian bikini girls with ray guns, a guy in a gorilla suit and diving helmet (name that movie?) - VERY dangerous road! Actually it is narrow and twisty, but no cliffs. A couple of hundred feet at the end is dirt, but level and maintained. You won't need the ATV.

Sam:

I do visit the Bay Area every day. A couple of Pina Coladas and some good snorkeling would be a nice break.

Sam:

Just an homage to bad sci-fi of the 50s and early 60s. So, can anyone name the film with the gorilla suit/diving helmet clad title character? Hint: arguably one of the two worst movies of all time (right up there with the infamous Ed Wood masterpiece: "Plan 9 From Outer Space")?

And what makes you think you do deserve it? I don't know if I'd want to argue with something called "assassin", though the derivation of the word "assassin" comes from hashish, so it can't be all bad. hehehehe

As far as it being a hoot, I don't know if we'll be seeing any owls, but my buddy tells me there is a nesting pair of Bald Eagles that is commonly observed.

Actually, it's just a few minutes from Oakland. Canyon is a wonderful hidden treasure. You just have to drive a couple of miles on a narrow twisty road to get there.

Check Wikipedia on Assissination ...

Everything appears to be a go for this Saturday's gathering. Anyone else who wants to come and hasn't yet received directions should email me off-list. As for food, the silence of volunteers rushing forward to do a bbq is deafening. May I propose an alternative plan. Since we are shooting for 2-6, we don't really need a full meal in there. Maybe we should shoot for munchies and beverages? I'll volunteer to make some guac and chips. Can anyone volunteer to bring something else to munch? beer? water? soda and/or other non-alcoholic bevs?

I will be bringing some "munchables;" perhaps something along the line of meats & cheeses, or antipasto salad, or a similar appetizer-variety food. Maybe I can even talk my wife into making some of her world-renowned chocolate chip cookies, as well! Finally, I'll be glad to bring a case of bottled water.

This was a very cool event! To see the number and variety of Alembic guitars and basses, and even some non-Alembics, would have been reason enough to go. However, it was the people who put it over the top. I knew Mica and Val would be there, but it was a supreme pleasure to see Mr. (Ron) Wickersham there, and also to meet Mica's husband. Ken, Doc, Harry,Bradley [sorry if I'm forgetting any other bassist]--great to meet you!

I think a big round of kudos and thank you's are in order--first to Ken, who if memory serves, originally got the N. CA. ball rolling; Bill tgo, for handling event logistics, generally facilitating the gathering, and of course, playing guitar; Will--the drummer in Bill's band--for offering us the use of the meeting site and playing drums; guitarist Matt [hope I'm remembering the name right], the keyboard player [whose name I did not get], and mouth harp player John for making it a true "full complement"jam session; and Mica, as well as Val, for bringing some awesome Alembics for all to see.

I look forward to another gathering, and even have a suggestion or two which may be useful--but that's a subject for another post!!

The first picture you posted- there is a bass (looks like a 4 string) on the couch. It has the brass control plate on the front and a single pickup. Do you have any other pictures or information on that one?
